Anyone know the events/weights yet? Is it on the same day as the novice comp, or on the same day as the open comp?

I'm just getting back into 'proper' training after injuring my back a couple of months ago. Did farmer's walk today for the first time since the injury (130Kg each hand). I was very wary of the initial lift, but my back survived it, and the walk/grip was fine. The power is still there.

Really looking forward to London's. I'd love it if 'pole push' was one of the events. Great fun!

have you heard from little mick yet? i think hes after the competitors addresses to send out forms. I have heard (not confirmed so dont quote me!) that these are the events:

Medley - 350 yoke, 130 farmers, 5 flips of a 'big tyre'
Axle for reps - 120kg
230kg squat for reps
Arm over arm
Stones

I gave Mick my address, but haven't heard anything yet.

Those are not my favourite events!
I HATE yoke, and I've never done axle. I can press 120Kg, but I can see the clean being a problem. I have a friend who's just bought a thick bar, so I'll have to get practising with it, and work out some way of getting 120Kg up to my chest!
I have a chance of getting 1 rep on squat.
Stones is a bad event for me, due to my lack of height, and my refusal to use tacky!

This sport isn't meant to be easy!

I'm a great believer in lifting unassisted, but maybe I can be converted!

I wonder how many people will complete that medley. Not many I imagine. Shame it's in the order yoke-farmer's-tyre. I'm good at farmer's, OK at tyre, and bad at yoke. I might not even reach the farmer's!

doing stones without tacky is like having sex without condoms, you just shouldnt do that - especially with unfamiliar stones.

The use of tacky was debated on here very recently.

350kg is a heavy yoke for a 105kg comp at the British it was 320kg i think.

Yes, the events do seem heavy. That weight yoke has been used in World's Strongest Man. I remember Magnus Samuelsson struggling with a similar weight yoke in WSM 1996 - only managing a distance of 7 metres. That was early in his strongman career though.

I push pressed 120Kg this morning, but failed 125Kg. It's not something that I do very often. If I do it every week, I'll be up to 130+ in no time, so the press part of the axle in London's shouldn't feel like a max lift!

I've only ever had a minor bicep injury, and it wasn't from stone lifting. It is a scary thought though!

Wayne, try a clean with a deadlift grip, you have to get used to untangling your arms at the top but its gets it up there!

As for tacky, lifting natural is noble but tacky will help with technique. Last year any stone over 100kg I used tacky, now I'm up to 120kg and dont use tacky until i get to the 135kg stone.

Thanks for that tip! I've seen a few techniques. Resting axle on belly/belt is common. How difficult is it to go from belly/belt to chest? I've also seen guys using the crook of their elbow. Double overhand power clean is the most impressive, but requires tremendous power and grip strength.

I got your text this morning, littlemick.

This morning I tried 100Kg log for reps. Without pushing myself, I did 5. As I am now, I reckon I have 6/7 in me. I then did 110Kg, which flew up, so I thought I'd try a PB - 117.5Kg - and got it! Yes yes yes! Wasn't expecting that this morning!

Really looking forward to the comp. Good events. Bit worried about the dead lift. I've just got over a back injury, and I'll be worried about it 'going' again. I'll approach that event with caution.
