which do you prefer and why? [:)]

daveo -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 13:59:29)

I prefer the taste of basmati, but brown is better nutritionally (*prepares to get proven wrong by nige or someone*).

Brown basmati though, that's the one to go for.

Malika -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 14:10:43)

As above, I always choose brown basmati rice.

Malika where do you buy that from?

Why is it really better to consume brown rice/pasta over white? I know it will keep blood glucose more stable and all that but does white pasta/rice get absorbed too quickly? I would've thought it was still a medium slow carb and not really sugary so fine to consume ...

processed fibreless carbs act like sugar. Basmati rice's starch is a different makeup to stripped wheat and is slow in its white and brown forms

orange86 -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 15:23:29)

i prefer white basmati, easier to cook than brown rice.

one major issue when cooking rice is, once cooked in a steel pot, i have a covering of rice stuck to the bottom of the pot.
how do i stop the rice from sticking ?

theiopener -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 15:24:11)

rinse the rice thoroughly and make sure you font boil it down all the way and stir it often

This poll is no good! There should be 4 options, being white non-Basmati, brown non-Basmati, white Basmati & brown Basmati.

done lord Nige!

fun meter -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 17:35:40)

Brown basmati, better flavour and texture I find.

aldo -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 17:42:53)

Definately white basmati

I bought some brown basmati from tesco the other week, and it takes AGES to cook, where the white one takes 10 mins, and just doesnt taste as good, or look as fluffy

Voted! I hardly ever eat rice, but when I do eat rice, I prefer Brown Basmati as it's the most nutritious and slowest release of the 4 choices.

jango -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 17:50:39)

Each weekend I cook a 1 kg bag of Brown basmati and a 500 gram bag of white basmati. I then mix it all together and freeze it in portion sized containers.

Nige just out of interest mate, bit off topic too but...What did you eat to become superhuman? i.e. what's your daily diet like?

Nigeepoo -> RE: Basmati vs Brown rice? (May 6 2008 18:04:59)

I'm not superhuman LOL! For an example of my daily diet, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbfood/F2670469?thread=5326776&skip=0&show=20#p62100566

Brown basmati rocks! Lovely nutty taste and more fiber!
