Simple question guys, the water in our office kitchen never runs clear, when still in a glass it is very cloudy, almost as if someones poured salt into it and stirred it around.

However tastes....like.....water.

I should mention this is only the hot water, the cold water does run semi clear.

any explaination?

The description you've given is exactly what the water was like at my mum and dad's house and I drank it for 20 years so I'd have to say yes

Ive heard this happens to tap water in some areas. Apparently it is drinkable, something to do with whatever they put in it, to make it drinkable after you flush it down the toilet.

My tap water is like that

From the The Drinking Water Inspectorate's website:

quote:

Q-"Why does the water sometimes look cloudy when it comes from the tap?"

A-Water can be cloudy as a result of chalk deposits or excess air. Cloudy water caused by excess air clears from the bottom up on standing freshly poured water in a glass, and is not something to worry about. Chalk deposits are not harmful but may be associated with other deposits and you should contact your water company.

Safer to buy it. Although where I live the water is just as good as bottled.

You wouldn't drink it if you seen what the water pipes were like;)

I always thought you weren't supposed to drink water from the hot tap, something to do with it having been lying in the septic tank

hot tap will breed germs in the pipes, not safe for drinking. There are regs on the temps for hot and cold taps, ie cold can't be above X degs and hot cant be below x degs.

It could be chalk, which is fine. Just filter it it if concerned

Yes. With dead pigeons and pigeon poop.

And asbestos-y cobwebs.

I think everyone is missing the point that it is JUST THE HOT WATER

If the cold water runs clear then it aint chalk etc ... it must be something in the tank ...

I'd probably drink the cold water if that's clear. Why you want to drink warm water anyway?
