So true. My only real obstacle to joining the Marines is my eyesight. I went to the opticians and they cross-referenced it with the Marine scores and reckon it's good enough, but if I do fail on the actual application I'll have to seriously consider laser eye surgery, which would mean another year before I could re-apply.

I considered the police force but I don't believe the lifestyle is going to be even comparable to that of the Marines, I don't think they'd be able to push me to my limits. It pays well, though, providing you can stand all the red-tape bullshit that comes along with it.

Monday 12th May

Updating before I've done the actual work-out today as I applied for a job and was asked to start immediately! Meant that I didn't get the chance to go swimming either, but I'm happy enough for the moment, I like income.

SS Cardio ( 2 mile walk, 2 mile run)
Core strength level 1
Circuit training level 1 x4

10x Squat-Thrusts
10x Press-ups
Ab Plank - 30 seconds
10x Lunges - Even more lovely DOMS in my legs now, great, it hurts to walk. :(
10x Sit-ups
10x Clapping Press-ups

50 skips between each circuit. ( With rope)

Good going on the job mate! What's it doing? I've just applied for a writing job, kind of a job, for an online website. You basically write articles and if they're published you make a percentage on advertising revenue. I don't think it'll be much of an income, but it'll be good to put on my CV for writing jobs I apply for in the future.

Squat thrusts the ones where you jump up in the air? Might try them on Friday with a low weight. I remember when I was 11st I could do Ab planks for 2 minutes and I never felt a thing, now though it kills me after 10 seconds lol. I have naturally weak abs because of my operation.

It's working in a local cafe. I worked at Dominoes Pizza as an assistant manager for 4 months but then they started to **** around with my hours in a very disrespectful manner, so I left much to their shock. The guy who owns the cafe is awesome, really funny and generally a nice guy, the sort of guy you could see being your mate and my brother works there as well, which is a big plus! The best part is though, work days go from 8am till 3pm 6 days a week, which is nothing compared to what I used to do and it leaves me with the mornings to do my runs and my core-strength exercises, and the afternoon/evening to eat and go swimming, hillsprints/weight sessions and my circuits! If I keep this up for a couple of months, I'm going to be down to 16 stone fairly quickly and hopefully doing 4-5 mile runs at a 8 minute/mile pace by the end of the summer.

Spirits are high and aspirations even higher, bring on tomorrow.

Edit: Nope, you're thinking of burpees. Squat thrusts are burpees without the jump.

Tuesday 13th May

SS Cardio (2mile walk, 2 mile run)
Core strength level 1
2x3 Hill Sprints
Circuit training level 1

10x Squat-Thrusts
10x Press-ups
Ab Plank - 30 seconds
10x Lunges - Even more lovely DOMS in my legs now, great, it hurts to walk. :(
10x Sit-ups
10x Clapping Press-ups

50 skips between each circuit. ( With rope) (I know it's the same as yesterdays, but I can't find my dice so I'm just re-using it, as it gave a good work-out!)

Bloody brilliant day! Up at 5am, knocked out the 2 mile run at a fast pace and got my Core strength level 1 down before I have to go to work as well. Work went fine, plus I get a free 10inch wholemeal sandwich that I can pack full of salad, chicken and Nandos sauce, yum! Going to do the circuit and the hill sprints tonight, have to keep updating before I get the chance to do them thanks to my brothers suddenly needing a lot of time on the computer for no apparent reason, but they'll get done! I really need to sort out getting swimming into my daily routine, possibly heading there straight after work in future but if I'm being honest, I reckon if I keep this up for another 2-3 weeks I'll be ready to move up to level 2 and generally crank it up a notch! Feeling fit and generally tight at the moment, my bodies coping really well with what is, in all fairness, a fairly heavy volume work-load.

Wednesday 14th May

SS Cardio (3 mile walk)

Notes:Cooldown day for me, so nothing to report really. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all training days, and I am going to definitely going to get swimming both tomorrow and friday after work, it really, really needs to get the hell into my routine sharpish.

Thursday 15th May

SS Cardio (2 mile walk, 2 mile run)
Core strength level 1
40 minutes continuous swimming

Notes: Well, my alarm clock completely and utterly failed to wake me this morning, so I didn't manage to get anything done at all before I had to go to work, which was a big blow. However, I did manage to cram the above in in a few hours after work, going to show that I really can include swimming as part of my everyday routine if I so choose! Quite a confidence booster, that, and I really enjoyed todays swimming session, I find it a brilliant conditioner and excellent for steady weight loss. I did have to drop the circuit training and hill sprints today as I simply didn't have the time/energy to cram a full days work-out into one evening, but I reckon a Running, Swimming and Circuit training base, 6 days a week, with added Hill Sprints/Resistance sessions will be doable and I'm hoping to attempt a move up to Level 2 sometime in early June!

Have to be up at 4am tomorrow to get running as I have to be in work at a horrendously early time, but with an early night and a new alarm clock, the sky's the limit!

Friday 16th May

SS Cardio (2 mile walk, 2 mile run)
Core Strength 1
40 minutes continous swimming
Circuit training level 1 x4

10x Bench Jumps
10x Bench Dips
10x Sit-ups
10x Step-ups
10x Star-jumps
10x Ab Plank

Notes: Raar! Up at 4:30, out of the house and onto the streets. An *excellent* days training, well, comparitively anyway. This is how everyday should and will be, consistency is key. The run was at an increased pace and didn't pose too much of a problem so I reckon another two weeks and then a step-up to 3 miles and level two is definitely in order. Quick post as I actually have to go out and do the circuit training now, plus my entirely family is being a gross inconvenience and generally pissing me off so I doubt I'll get a chance to get back on tonight! One more day then a glorious rest day.

Saturday 17th May

SS Cardio (2mile run, 2 mile walk)

And that's it! Normally I'd be pissed off, but today has been *awesome*. Just one of those days where everything flows, you meet a pretty lady and realise you have close to a grands worth of cash that has accumulated by your careful efforts! Life is good, it's just a shame my friends girlfriends are clamping down on them tonight so I can't go and bathe in whiskey. :(

Tomorrow's a rest day, then as from Monday, forwards once more! Two more weeks until I weigh myself, I'd like to be 246lbs even after my week of decadence.

Sunday 18th May

Rest day today, but I thought I'm in a really good mood and felt like sharing it. :D

Bought £200 worth of new clothes today, all the measurements for my waist being 36 inches still which is nice, considering this time last year I was having trouble fitting into 42's! Still have trouble finding jeans because I have pretty big thighs, but there's an exceptional shop in Macc called John Douglas's run by an ex-football player, he does jeans with much more room in the legs so I'm going to nip in tomorrow when they're open!

I know I told myself I'd wait until the start of June to weigh myself but I felt good waking up this morning and wanted to see if I was back on track.

248lbs!

GREAT SUCCESS! At two pounds a week (assuming I can keep it up) I have 12 weeks until I hit my target weight. I'll keep it updated every Sunday morning from now on!

Monday 19th May

SS Cardio (2mile run, 2 mile walk)
Core strength level 1
Weights:
Arms/Chest split

Circuit training level 1
x4

10x Lunges
10x Box Jumps
10x Step-ups
10x Sit-ups
10x Burpees
10x Hanging leg raises

Notes: No swimming today, had to stay late to prepare a buffet, but at least I got some shopping done afterwards! I've changed the resistance work I'm doing as far as weights are concerned, as it really doesn't add up to a great deal I've swapped the old routine for simple splits that I can decide in my garage; just pick a couple of body-parts and hammer them! The run was fast and constant, might consider taking this bank holiday weekend coming up to attempt the move to level 2!

Eating isn't as strict as it possibly could be, but better than it was. No carbs after 5 and nothing stupid like takeaways. I said I would weigh myself every week, but I've decided to leave it till the 1st June after all, then take readings on a weekly basis from there.

Haven't done the weights and circuit training yet, but I always finish whatever I've written in my journal. I'm like a dog with a bone when I've decided to get something done.

Good job regarding the smaller waist size. I remember when I was 16stone all fat with a 38 inch waist, I used to be positively overjoyed when my clothes started hanging off me. I remember buying 34inch waist pants and being amazed at fitting into them, then being astounded when I needed to keep them up with a belt. Then I remember the belt being too big for me and I had to buy 32 inch waist pants, then managing to fit into 30inch waist pants lol.

I've just had that "omg they fit again" recently, with my very slim fitting 32 inchers from a few years back fitting nicely again (although my bum is a bit squashed lol).

Tuesday 20th May

SS Cardio (2 mile walk, 2 mile run)
Core strength 1
30 minutes continuous swimming
Circuit training

10x Lunges
10x Box Jumps
10x Step-ups
10x Sit-ups
10x Press-ups
10x Elbows to knees

Training went fine, I'd comment more but I just wrote more and the ****ing thing got deleted for no apparent reason.

Training through tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, then taking Saturday off as rest. Using Sunday and Monday to attempt the tests to move up to level 2, it's about time!

Cheers Firestorm, losing weight is a great feeling isn't it? I've got to the point where it's all slowed down a bit, but I've made my diet pretty strict in the last couple of days, most of my calories coming from Chicken, Brown Rice, Eggs, Raw Vegetables, so I reckon by the end of the summer I'll be in the sort of shape I'd like to be! And of course as my fitness increases, so do the demands of my training so more calories being stripped away and so on. I still feel fat and unfit, but I guess figures speak for themselves, and regardless I'm certainly moving in the right direction!

I have a pair of suit-trousers with a 36 inch waist that used to almost disect my waist, just waiting until I hit 17 stone to check them out.

Tests be damned!

I'm sodding the level system off and sticking to a more basic progressive system. I went for a walk and it suddenly occured to me that with such a strict system in place, I run the risk of gimping my training for a couple of weeks by taking the tests then getting back into the swing of things. I intend to simply write out the exercise I did for that day and the diet I ate as well, keep it nice and simple, increase as I see fit according to how I feel about my fitness levels.

That also means 3 mile runs as of tomorrow, no walking as I won't have time before work. I reckon a month of that as AM cardio included in a normal routine and my new strict diet will shift my weight-loss up a gear as well.
