I'm looking for a graduate job to do for a couple of years while I save up to finish my legal education and one thing that comes up repeatedly is recruitment consultant.
The money looks pretty good but it also looks like long hours at times and unsociable hours. I found a weird stat that almost 80% of recruitment consultants are satisfied with their jobs though.
Does anyone on here do this or have any experience in this field? Any comments appreciated.

A lot of people say DONT DO IT.... but my mates brother does it and he's on 40k a year... Not the best input I know but money seems good

The guy who helped get me my current job was in a similar situation to you coming out of uni and says he's enjoying it. I can imagine it being a bit repetitive though, and you must have to deal with a lot of people saying they're happy in their current job thank you very much. You can make good money though if you're good at it.

i know a fair few people that do it.
terrible job, you'll love it to start with, all the buzz words and sales bollox, your manager will be chucking figures at you relentlessly, then you'll realise you've lost a stone of muscle, start work at half 7, leave at 8 and bore your mates with nothing but work chat, as thats all you do.
thats just what people i know have been like though. i would never do it.

I was slightly suspicious when the guy phoned me about two hours after I sent my CV off. I don't mind working long hours but 12 hour days are a bit off-putting - the only thing i really do at nights is go to the gym, so not even having time to do that would be a dealbreaker.

What sort of recruitment agency is it? I never realised that they worked long hours before  What's the point after all? The guys we share an office with work 8.30-5 or so, hardly long hours, and they do recruitment consultancy.

The money is great if you do well in it but you have to be pretty hard-faced and be willing to put people in jobs you know they won't really like if you want to earn decent commission. And on the other side, cold-calling businesses to try and plug your agency is soul-destroying: I get them phoning me all the time no matter how many times I tell them not to. Imagine being fobbed off 100 times a day... [shudders]

It's for legal firms, financial companies etc. Seems to be the more corporate stuff.

number of my friends do it.
they enjoy the hell out of it. You need to be thick skinned, competitive, self confident, persistent, money motivated, prepared to work hard is the general jist of it. I've friends my age at 22 earning 30-60k after commission and that's in the north west and within 2 years of work. It gets to silly money if you're good.
tbh i'm going to give it a go soon. Moneys just not good enough where i am and it's not the experience i need to progress where i want to go

Not saying your fibbing but that does sound a little far fetched. I know a few and ive not heard silly figures like that being mentioned.
My ex housemates does it. First compnay she worked for she left as they were tossers. Seemed to do a late finish once per week. Wouldnt have said she was worked to the bone in terms of hours.
Shes much happier at her new company.
It seems to be basiclly telesales which would be sole destroying for me. Evidently its a great job for certain types.
You work in execution only stockbroing at the moment? You not going to stick with that? Im in the same field.

I dont think AJ85 is fibbing.
My friend works in the 'accounts' dept. for a recruitment agency and tells us its not usual for consultants to earn 30k plus. He records and calculates their commission and pay as one of his daily tasks.

Consultants can earn way beyond that, especially in London. 30K is at the very lower end from my experience.
Recruitment consultants are rarely liked by the companies they source people for, the hours are supposedly horrendous and you need to be good at sales. Anyone I've known who works in the field though has made some very good money.

I've got some good sales results in my current job but that's mainly people calling in to me and giving me something to work with. Reckon the other side of sales could be a bit of a rude awakening for me. I don't mind working long hours as long as i can fit training in.

I do aye, well remembered! Tbh it's not a graduate job i'm in and any sort of progression would take an absolute age. More to the point though, i've had a bit of a change in circumstances recently and i need to find a higher paying job (in London) asap. My aim for the next five years is to secure a good law traineeship in London so i want to be based down there for interviews etc.

Yeah like I say I wasnt accusing him of fibbing I just find these sums hard to imagine. Fair play thats a lot of cash that can be earnt and you dont need a formal qualification to do the job as its obviously based on your character.
