barons1 -> Thoughts on a re-feed week? (May 7 2008 9:59:52)

I have been cutting for around 8 weeks and dropped around 16-17 pounds, but in the last two weeks i have seen a distinct drop off in weight loss, i am in the process of upping my cardio but i have previously noticed that when i have a cheat meal / day that the weight loss seems to pick up again straight after.
whilst i am not worried about the slow down in weight loss i was just wondering if anyone had any experience of re-feeding to possibly rev up the metabolic rate? or is it just an excuse to have a week off the diet [:)]

in my experience it would have been best to have a refeed day each week

this doesnot mean dont stick to the diet it just means double carbs that day but still from clean sources

i was thinking of going back up to maintenance calories or maybe 100-150 cals above, which over a week shouldn't give any real weight gain, as i mentioned i do have the occasional cheat day (not extreme, just more of what i usually eat) and was wondering if a full week would give an extended boost to the metabolism?

depends on your goals,

a re-feed day is good for both mind and body and will boost weight loss.

you may want to wait until you have done say eg 12 weeks before having a well earned week off, which i know is like heaven when working hard with both diet and workouts.

I am definitely going to leave it a few more weeks just to see how well the cardio increase affects things, to be honest i think it will do me good to have a 'break' to look forward to especially as i am very happy with progress so far and would love to keep the momentum going.
Goal wise i am going back to basics and need to shift around another 8-10 pounds so i can start over and look at a clean bulk in autumn, instead of the gain twice as much fat as muscle bulk i ham fisted my way through over winter.
