I've found that it's usually uneducated people who are rude, as they know no better

Most of the instances in this thread are pretty much unforgiveable, but I often find well mannered people to be quite false and even quite devious. As many have said, good manners cost nothing, and this is precisely what makes it so useful when used in a duplicitous way. It is an easy way of giving the impression that you are honourable, thoughtful and kind, but good manners is not always an indication of a good person. The devil always wear his best suit.

So, let's get this straight, you're saying that the Health and Safety Executive are responsible for the increase in rudeness in British society?

I just walk a little slower and smile like I know something they don't, like my life is so much better. Enjoy the sunshine, the sights sounds and smells. Smiling and angry looking people really perplexes them. I once called the popcorn seller out at the cinema for being rude. He looked suitably embarrassed.

I'm not going into much details i spose, im saying that if the people teaching / policing / parents were allowed to be more 'strict - i guess' then this type of behaviour may occur less. Obviously there are alot of other issues, such as boring lifestyles for example. People weren't like this where i grew up, given i was privaledged.

I'm quite suprised that you didnt smash any of they in Righty. Perhaps a selective breeding programme would be most effective, I for one totally advocate it's implementation. As for your question I do belive that it is like that in Britain for the most part....I also find it be a paticular trait of the 'working class' children/young adults. May I ask as well, what was the threat that you dished out to the supermarket offender??

Manners aren't hereditary. It's upbringing that affects peoples' attitudes and a lack of that causes them to turn foul. I wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount of people on this thread had very little manners, and like to criticise those that don't too. In fact, probably a few of you have been rude to people for having different opinions. Manners eh?

I find that most people are polite, but the ones who aren't stick out in your memory. I live in Manchester in a fairly crap area. Older people are fine, but chavs and kids round here are inbred-looking ****y little ****s.

Plus you cannot examine every couple that are going to/ have kids of their own. If you were to monitor them then they'd just act as being 'good parents', and if the cameras were put in without them knowing (which is next to impossible with the media) then there would be an uproar. Parents have a responsibility to bring up their child, and it's not always the parents' fault if the child turns out foul. It's also hard to teach someone how to be a better person, it's really up to themselves as they get older.

Very true, which is why I meant it in an entirly hypothetical sense...if it was practical to implement then surley it would have some effect. Might not always be the parents fault, but IMO it is in the majority of cases

maybe the fella with the trolley was rushing to post on an internet forum his tale of woe, and he genuinly didnt see your wife, his unhelpful response may be due to embarassment of the fact that he should have gone to specsavers
