most of the things mentioned in this thread are common occurance throughout the uk. such is life now, it would take way too much to change it for the better now. i just smile and carry on with my day as normal, i wont waste my energy or give the rude person the satisfaction of ruining my day, i'm happy in the knowledge their life must be really sh1t for them to want to force that on others. although saying that, some morrisons worker today muttered 'fcuking pr1ck' as he'd tried to get push past me and i stood my ground, he was working on the banana's section, so with the biggest smile on my face i took all the banana's off the rack and put them with the grapes, i walked off as he had to put them all back.

I can't remember the last time someone was so rude to me that it bothered me. in fact I can't think of an example of someone being rude to me lately full stop. maybe I'm under-sensitive, or maybe I look too psycho to mess with. but yes, this country has gone to the dogs, leave as soon as you caaaaaaaan!!!!

people are rude because we lack empathy. we chastise people for doing things and then get angry when someone chastises us for doing the same thing -not giving way -using mobile in car -queue jumping we are just a bunch of animals really. i try my very best to put myself in other position ,but occasionally i act befor i think animal !!

Another thing I have noticed , is that a lot of people want to give off an aura that they are "not to be messed with " - and they think the best way of doing this is by being an asshole This is complete crap IMO , some of the "hardest" people I know have excellent manners (up to the point that you take the piss out of them ) - The General misconception I see , is that generally people thing Good manners / kindness = Weakness of character Bad manners / attitude problem = Someone "hard" , not to be messed around One of the nuttiest blokes I know is also very well mannered , he is reknowned for chewing ears of and stamping on peoples skulls , but unless you have a problem with him , he is the most polite guy you'd ever hope to meet - Obviously his antics filter back through the local grapevine , and invariably his troubles start by him saying something like "Excuse me please" - then the other party will stand in his way , and it will kick off I 100% beleive , that if he wasn't so polite , the other parties would just move for him , but because he is polite - would be bullies read this as "vunerable" and try to prey on it I think this goes some way to explain why some people try to project an aura of attitude

ORIGINAL: rightyho Just a few examples from the last few days, which have got me thinking people are getting ruder and more wound up than ever. I hate humans sometimes. Last night in Tesco petrol station, while next in line at the queue to pay .... a late 20s woman comes in, pushes in front of me then asks the cashier "are there are fcuking public houses round here?" Cashier says: "Excuse me, what?" She says: "Are you fcuking deaf, public houses." He looks at me, a bit worried. I say: "Pubs" back to him. She butts in with with "What the fcuk's it got to do with you, you cheeky sh1t?" I feel obliged to shove her out the door as she raises her hands, presumably to slap or grab at me. Next example: Woman cuts me up on the dual carriageway, forcing me onto the grass. 30 seconds later, she does the same to a Kangoo van driver. She then pulls off into the city centre, cuts two more cars up on a roundabout then gets to another roundabout, gets in the left lane but goes right, cutting up the bloke in the correct lane. They have a wee crash. She doesn't stop and continues driving into a shopping centre car park, followed by me, Kangoo man, the bloke with a dented wing and two others. She parks in a disabled space when she isn't, tells us all to "fcuk off" then goes into the shop. Plod is called, who waits for her to return to breathalyse her. She kicks off with him and is promptly arrested. Final example: Shopping the other night with the missus, a bloke tw4ts her with his trolley - he's walking toward her, then veers into her path. All the missus says is "ow", then holds her leg. The bloke says "well move your fcuking ar5e next time", not realising the red-faced, about-to-explode bloke coming up the aisle is her husband (me). A few stern words and a wee threat turn him from an aggressive ar5e to a coward, but what a bully in the first place. These kind of things seem to be happening on an every-few-days basis. Is it the area or Britain in general these days? To be fair the first two weren't rude - they were drunk. The last one would be counting his stitches and still looking for his teeth.

ORIGINAL: AWG I'm quite suprised that you didnt smash any of they in Righty. Here's the conundrum. Because of my general appearance, there is a pre-conception among most people who don't know me that I will be the aggressor in most circumstances. Where I have previously been the aggrieved party in various instances, the police and even witnesses who have seen the whole thing unfold have assumed I'm the one who started it. A for instance: years back, a bloke pushed my mate's girlfriend straight down the stairs at a nightclub in Peterborough. My mate then shoved him down the stairs. The bloke stood up and threw a bottle back up the stairs at my mate. As I dragged his missus away, two of the bloke's mates decided to have a pop at me. In fairness, I totally lost it and ended up taking the skin of one nose off with a kick and completely knocked the other bloke out. When the police came, plenty of people pointed at me and said I'd started the whole thing. Guess who got arrested? So, with all this in mind, I almost always turn the other cheek and I think it makes me a better person for it. However, there is a limit which, once reached, I won;t give a fcuk about the consequences. Most situations, however, fall very far short of that.

In a word 'Narcissism'. Unfortunately we live in the 'me' generation where people only care about themselves to the exclusion of all others. I believe celebrity culture has significantly contributed to this. Just my 2p.

Here's another one from today. There's an ice rink near my gym and the caretaker is in his late 70s. He asked three 14 year olds to put their cigarettes out and got a load of abuse. I was having a chat with him a while later outside the front of the ice rink - he was measuring up a vandalised fence for fixing - and these three scrotes sauntered towards him, then gave him a load of quite shocking abuse. The worst bit was they are "problem kids" from a home and were with their "carer" - a bloke in his early 30s, who said absolutely nothing to them, didn't apologise to the old man, or anything. By doing that, he condoned their behaviour or, at the very least, gave them the nod to behave like that. I tried to have a word with him but he walked quickly to his car and drove off with the three scrotes hurling obsceneties from it.

Its kids being kids and what they are allowed to get away with, if anti social behavior was stamped out when it first started getting out of control this sort of thing wouldn't happen. It seems each year bounderies are getting pushed and this sort of thing is the norm, it seems when my dad was a kid he was treated like a kid and not a young adult and he knew his place and also not to mouth off so over the years when small anti social crimes where going unpunished people's behavior has gotten alot worse.

i went shopping last night, and even though food shopping is one of the worst things i have to do and i find it quite a traumatic experience i still have manners i let some bloke walk infront of me, and he seemed genuinly surprised as he thanked me for doing so it didnt add any time onto my walking across the car park and i felt good after it it sort of cancelled out all of the people i had charged at trolley first, and aimed for their shins whilst i was actually shopping

im surrounded by rude people when i work in london. the comment about it being poor people is not true, some of the rudest people ive ever met have been the rich high flying business people in central london. I've been litteraly shoved off my steps when working in an office because i was in the way of a door that some twat needed to get through. so rather than wait for me to finish he barged past me sending me flying. although it did bring a smile to my face seeing my dad have a go at him whilst holding a hammer in his hand... appology follwed shortly afterwards. i honestly think i could write one of those short story/ diary books on all the things that have happened to me whilst working in london. You generally find scum in all levels of society, people in a rush tend to barge past, dont say thankyou, cut you up at the lights etc and butt into your conversations to ask for directions to some road that as a builder your meant to know about. in most cases if people are rude when asking me something when im at work i point out how rude they are... and a lot of the time you get an appology, the ones that dont appologise get told to bugger off. the way i see it though, relax the benifits system, remove police from the streets, relax criminal sentancing, surround everything with political correctness and this is where we have ended up. I honestly feel the benifits system is way too easy. i have loads of friends on the dole, and they simply cant be arsed to get a job... for people like that they should have benifits removed. ALL my mates are able to get a job in macdonalds or cleaning etc like i did, yet a job like that is beneath them. Immigration has caused tension 1: due to the media hype, and 2: because its been too lax... with such an influx of people coming here to work etc it is bound to put a strain on communities. im not anti imiigration, i just believe we should have regulations in place, a lot stricter than they are now. Law and order is a joke now adays. not enough prison space and powers taken away from police. My friend wanted to be a police officer ever since she was a kid, she joined last year and is already having second thoughts, she said the ammount of paperwork is a joke and the level of results is very low, and as she said, half the time nothing can be done. if there is no deterent against crime then what do people expect? no disipline in schools either, teachers cant do anything for fear of being sued for assault. the country is too soft full stop, and as a result of this i think people have become distanced from each other. I think its slighty regional as well though. When i go to somerset etc i find it a lovely place, go out to the villages etc and everyone is friendly, go into the cities though and your met with an increase of hostility.

One thing is for sure the government have no clue what to do. Listening to them on TV today about anti social behaviour is a laugh. The police are impotent really, and on top of that people who don't respect the police are given far too much of a say by the media.
