Looks right. This will be similar to the grip dyno they will test her on:

Quick question then. Slow powerful squeeze (more realistic indication of strength as required) or as hard and fast as possible (gives a better reading)??

good question. slow and powerful squeeze for me. that's what i've always done, and IME they will pick you up on it if you try the fast and hard method quote:

So that's how he needs to train her.

ORIGINAL: CASS yep in most forces it's a push and pull test, plus a grip strenght test (which is a good overall indication of body strenght). all forces will vary a bit in what they will have as a fitness test. but basicly they all revolve around simular tests. Cheers CASS. I have her doing grip work routinely as well now - just thought it would be helpful. She's gone from gripping a pair of 5kg plates for about 10 seconds, to managing a pair of 15kg ones for maybe 30 seconds. She's working really, really hard. I think she'll be strong enough to have a bash now - she has an interview in eight weeks time. She's not old enough until then. Change that. Look up grip dynometers. Nowt like what you have her doing. Rack pulls, partial deadlifts, dumbbell holds for time are more similar. I have a grip dyno coming. Anyway, today she got into bloke territory on leg curls, leg press and extensions, then finished off with some stretching and flexibility work. Going great at the mo.

just a heads up the grip test is performed by holding the meter above your head (arm straight) you then squeeze it as you lower it to your side. not sure its thats the way everyone does it but thats the way my forced did it when it was used.

It really can't be hard though and I would say minimal training is required. I have a very good friend who's been a copper for approx 6/7 years. She's 5ft tall and very slim. Never did any training, just some jogging and bodyweight stuff for a couple of weeks. When she used to walk round town in her uniform it was comical as she was so small and frail. Two years ago she got the ****e knocked out of her on a service station forecourt by a 14 year old child of a similar size. What I'm saying is that this lass couldn't crush a grape and she got in...now in CID and has a promising career!

A mate of mine joined 2 years ago and it was 35kg push pull, but they used an altered concept rower so was more on resistance etc and average of 3 pulls. Level 5.5 on the bleep test which is $iss easy. That was it, no grip test, no situps etc. He said they measured the BMI and said he was obese, but it never mattered.

She's Smith machine benching 35kg for 10 at the moment and seated rowing 40kg for 10 also She will be fine then mate, its around 35KG she needs to push, and similar weight to pull. There were females there about half my size that managed it, and they hadent ever trained before. Bleep test is under level 5, the majority of us could do that hopping on one leg. There was a very over weight guy, mustve been around 19 stone at 5 ft 8, who managed it when i was there. Bleep test for firearms squad or the more 'elite' squads is more difficult. About level 11, but with full gear on as well. She couldnt apply for these squads until around 2-4 years of normal service anyway, so its not a problem.
