Apollo -> Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 15:34:30)

Has anyone noticed that quite a few people drive with their lights on when its hot and sunny? I just really noticed this yesterday as weve had such nice weather.

I know that some people with nice cars put their lights on when its dull or just starting to get dark but thats just to make the car look nice. But Ive seen people with very poor cars or large white vans driving in the sun with their lights on.

Why?

Volvo's = lights on all the time.

Why not?

some car makers now other than the likes of volvo are starting to make cars with the lights set to be on all the time.

Just wondered why. Surely one would like to make the best use of his car battery? In the bright sun having your lights on makes no difference.

its not that...when your following them and they have been indicating left for about 2 miles on a duel carriageway, when on a mobile, while the other arm looks for the seatbelt, whilst making the odd steering correction.....why the **** NOT put the lights on for good measure......

Problem being in the high sun you cant see the brake lights go from the lower glow to the braking brighter glow and you force to practise emergency stops!

I think the number of people driving with lights on in clear daylight is directly related to the number of clowns driving with their lights off in inclement weather.

A kind of ying and yang if you like.

Cars with their headlights on are easier to see than those without. Motorcyclists have theirs on permanently also to increase visibility of them.

Apollo -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 15:43:57)

Its true alot of people dont have lights on when visibility is low or its getting dark, but at least I put that down to forgetting to turn them on. But I see no reason to put lights on when its hot and sunny, especially when your drawing attention to your scoda. If I had a Ferrari I might do it out of arrogance though.

I can't speak for all drivers but for BMW's a lot of drivers will keep them on all the time, especially if they have Xenon's. They look better on IMO, I especially like the 5 series lights and also the Audi A5 with its LED/Xenon lights at the front. It also makes the car easier to see, makes sense to me.

Apollo -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 15:51:00)

Yeah those bmw zenons and also the audi a5 lights are amazing. Im getting an Audi A5 next year. I can understand leaving the lights on on those cars, amazing. But people with crappy cars do it too lol.

The only things I've seen with lights on during the day are volvo's and bikes.

Must be some strange drivers around your way mate.

wysiwyg -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 17:40:04)

im surprised you have posted this apollo, can you see the lights from the bus on your way to work or something?

Puzzle -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 17:53:14)

Particulary when the sun is low in the sky, having the lights on makes a lot of difference. The difference between being seen and not being seen.

daveyboy8181 -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 17:57:28)

apparantly so....
struggling to find the article think it was in the papers over the last few weekends

from such a date vehciles will be manufactured to have mandatory running lights to be used in the day time like in austria etc were its already in force
barmy or what

wysiwyg -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 17:59:52)

so if i buy an audi with £200 bulbs in i will be changing them every month? [:@]

freak_in_cage -> RE: Driving in sunlight with lights on? (May 7 2008 22:54:34)

as a driver, if the light is behind you turning your lights on helps oncoming cars see you
