Also, you're asleep for about 8 hours, so that's 8 hours without food when you've been eating regularly throughout the day - having something before bed keeps that gap as small as possible You liver stores plenty of AA acids to faciliate a positive protein balance over night if it's required. Secondly a large meal, say eaten around 2000, will still be digesting around 0400. Finally you cannot force your body to be 'anabolic' 24 hrs of the day. You phyisology requires peaks and troughs in it's various mechanisms. Hence when intravenous AA are given protein balance drops to baseline after an hour or so. Is ingesting a meal before bed bad? No. Is it always nessecary of fundementaly important? No. Do I eat before bed? Yes, as it's a good time for me to have some food as part of my total kcal intake. Particulary if I am trying to put weight on and need a high kcal intake. Liver doesnt store aminos, the human body cant store any amino acids. We need to eat protein to get the ~10 required aminos. The liver CAN turn proteins into glucose to fuel the brain in times of "starvation" though. Meal before bed allows us to keep hunger at bay, helps me sleep better, provides body with protein/aminos to further promote growth and helps reduce the time the body goes without food. A fatty meal before bed to slow digestion or a protein blend of "slow" proteins is nice, alternatively eat mackeral/oily fish or some steak and eggs perhaps. Its not nessercery, but i think it will prob be benificial. Can we see this progress? Prob not. |
