got a gym induction this afternoon
-
08 May 2008 12:07
decided to join a new gym, but have to have a ruddy induction first before I can use it, what happens in one? do they just show you the stuff or do they try and do a fitness test and write you a program? I know you have to have one and even if Ronnie Coleman signed up he would have to have one, but I really can't be @rsed with it and am gonna find it hard to feign interest and not just tell him or her to hurry up so I can get on with my own workout. er...that's it

I think they have to do it for insurance purposes. Just feign interest

It's as little as a tick in the Health & Safety box or can be as much as goal setting and showing you how all the equipment works. For experienced trainers I'd simply say "is there any piece of equipment here that you'd like me to show you in more detail". Occasionally they'd ask a question about a specific exercise or muscle group but usually they'd go and do their workout and 'get back to me with any questions'.

ORIGINAL: RedHotF I think they have to do it for insurance purposes. Just feign interest I know, still I find it annoying though, the gym I am going to caters for disabled people and has a leisure centre attached to it which specifically caters for disabled people and employs a lot of them, so there's a chance the gym instructor will be disabled too which will sweeten the induction even further.

I was shown how to operate a lat pulldown machine and a treadmill in my induction. I'd feel like a complete tw*t giving you an induction tuc lol, I feel sorry for the one that ends up doing it *please be some 10 stone weasel with blonde highlights and a stupid swagger*

You could liven it up by asking what the best exercises are to work the Ubilous muscle (which is connected to the Upper Dorsimus)

(DB's heavy enough etc) yeah it's surprisingly good and quiet during the day so will be ideal, also I'm gonna be going about pretty light for a good while as I am trying to get back from an arm injury

Are you joining Greenbank Gym? I had a look round this a few weeks ago, looks pretty good, do you know how much you will be paying?

That sounds like a decent price what is considered off peak? Can you pay per session? I am getting a free two weeks at a gym by Liverpool College, no idea what it is like, but since I play football there they are giving away free 2 week passes, could be an awful gym though, so will wait and see!

Why would this, in itself, be a problem? My first powerlifting coach was wheelchair-bound, but he was still an excellent coach.
