I am cutting and am wondering what body fat % to aim for before bulking. What % do you normally get to before bulking? I am currently 176lbs and 14.5% bodyfat at the minute. Thanks

I try to get around 12%, not to low so i avoid muscle loss but a decent % so i'm happy how i look and so that i have a good stretch of bulking time. However next bulk will be 2weeks max, with 1 week cut in between - or something like that.

Muscle loss is overrated unless you try and get into single figures OP: 10-12%. As muscle goes on anyway your BF will go down if its a slow good lean bulk. dont go over 15% though, pointless IMO unless you are chemically assisted Yeah i agree with iopener, 15%

ORIGINAL: theiopener whats your progress been for 4 yars of cutting and bulking since you started mate? Been a member for 4 years, no body built for any where near that time. When i started (2004?) i cut from 220lbs to 170lbs, then i quit... added a few lbs of fat, went back to "normal person" then returned to cut and quit after that, for along time i was happy being lean and didnt train or follow a Bbing diet. Around december 07 just gone i cut to 157lbs then i quit again. Then i returned and bulked once, for around 1-2months around late feb? this year, the last ~3weeks of the bulk were far to 'dirty' with a week and a half of no training whilst on holiday. Aiming for 1-2lbs weight gain was a bad choice, and i dont like the "cut/bulk" long phases. Now ill be cutting to ~150lbs, then ill be rotating 2weeks bulk, 1 week cut most likly. So ive body built consistently for around ~2-3 months, now im consistent (minus this weeks illness). Progress so far is fat is down, strength is up and as my sig says, still cutting. Judging progress by comparing to me will help anyone feel like they've acomplished something Now ill see what results i get, by doing the most important thing in bodybuilding; Being consistent.

What would it be for a female, bodyfat % before concentrating on adding muscle. Currently carb timing to drop bodyfat.

Im on a clean bulk and in the picture below I was 16 1/2 stone at about 18% BF. No offence, but id say your less than 18% imo mate, how did you measure you bf%, i agree with iopener that you would be around 15%

Is doing a two week bulk followed my 1 week cutting a good way to add muscle and keep fat to a minimum. It is always something i have struggled with... Would say doing my normal 3 times a week weight training with a clean enough diet, with one hour long session of cardio be sufficient? Hypothetically.

Na just lean bulk mate - good diet and cardio = sorted :)
