War Lord -> Glutes... (May 8 2008 17:34:57)

A few days after doing my legs I sometimes get sharpish pain in my glutes... Looks like I'm heading towards haemorhoids if I'm not there already... Anyone got any advice for me? I think my legs are lagging a bit so i want to bulk them up further, how serious is this, should I drop the compounds/exercises that hit my glutes and just do isolation moves, or can i make changes so my glutes don't get hit so hard... Or shouldn't I worry about it?

What rep ranges should I stick to, should i avoid doing low reps? i tend to do ascending pyramid sets and sometimes work up to a single on the leg press at least, though not on squats... The leg press has two differently angled parts to the foot plate you can use...

post your routine also how long you been training?

War Lord -> RE: Glutes... (May 12 2008 17:13:08)

My leg routine is :

Leg press 3-5 sets

Squats 3 sets

Standing smith machine calf raises 3 sets

Leg press calf raises 3 sets

Superset leg extension with seated leg curl - 3 sets each (supersetted)

I do them all on ascending pyramid sets starting at 10-12 reps and I've been training for over 18 months, be 2 years in August i think.

Thanks for the reply's, but I think you misread my post slightly! It's not growth I'm worried about, it's the pain around my glutes I sometimes get that seems to be indicative of Haemorhoids and I'm wondering how best to work round it to get the results i want!

Raskolnikov -> RE: Glutes... (May 15 2008 17:17:40)

It does sound a bit vague to me. Have you noticed any blood in your stools at all? Does it feel really itchy?

It's not unknown for people to get piles from heavy squatting and deadlifting. Never had this myself, fortunately

If you think this is the problem, perhaps try with a lighter weight for higher reps so there's less straining involved
