ORIGINAL: StuB Hello James, to respond to your question on how the mods run the board I'd like to say that I think you all do a very good job! Unfortunately, you don't get the support from some members who seem incapable of self-moderation of what they post. Even in this thread we have seen some members of the opinion that because this is the internet we should not take offense at what is posted. This is despite the numerous posts in which you and your colleagues have stated that people can and do take offense at what is posted on the internet. So, even though as Mods you have asked people to be respectful of those who may find some posts offensive or off-putting, there are those that want to argue against it. To that end, I think the easiest way to moderate the board is to simply lock/delete threads as deemed to be appropriate by the Mod concerned. I don't think the Mods should have to justify why a thread is locked/deleted, I'm sure the reason why you and Jason have appointed these mods is because you trust that they will use their discretion when evaluating a thread and because they will enforce the rules that you have both determined to be necessary. I believe that the Mods do have a duty of care to ALL members of the board and it should not be undermined by a minority who want to treat MuscleTalk as a boys club and will stick two fingers up at anyone who dares to call them to task over their behavior on the forum. You relaxed the rules on what could be posted, we've now seen that you gave an inch and some members took a mile, so the only way forward is to crack the whip. I can't see any of your loyal members leaving in objection to a hardline of moderation, it'll likely be those who have nothing of real relevance to contribute to the forum and were only here for pub banter. Good post IMO - we did avert away from the relaxed moderation though as it clearly didn't work. I think we will toughen up again though - I can feel LMC itching to go.... |
