...tonight Running a 5k race on an apparently "fast" route (to me 5k is 5k).
Nervous as I have never raced before but confident I will get a good time....I hope!

So will I or won't I - break the 20min barrier? Which to me is good for a 6'4 15 stoner.

(good vibes appreciated)

My training times are now around 21mins for 5k and 45mins for 10k.
I hear from people that you always run faster in a "race" than training on your own, hence why I am going for 20mins even if I get 1 sec under 20 mins

You generally will run faster in a race

a) Your are racing against others

b) Adrenaline levels will be higher as opposed to training

Good Luck

I used to feel buzzing when i raced on a big occasion, didnt really feel fatigue afterwards, my training in the following few days would be amazing too

good luck

19mins is about the time I run these things nowadays. Though my best time was 15:40 (10 years ago).

Just don't let the adrenaline surge burn you out to soon. Take it easy. And warm yourself up well before.

Yeah majority of runners running tonights are all 14-17min over 5k so I am going to be towards the back but I got to start somewhere I would like to get sub 20/19 one day but I think I would have to drop the weights to do that.

yeah, you need to set your priorities
I tend to avoid racing nowawdays but my kids are both athletes and I keep getting roped into road races

but I still run ca. 28km each week. Just very slowly

yeah my running is up to about 50k a week and that is fine on my legs but not much energy for weights. I am not built for running but really enjoy it so will see how I get on over next months and make a decision. I do like the fact the fat is disappearing when running all the time
