As the bowl of petunias said as it fell towards the surface of the planet Magrathea "Oh, no. Not again!" EDIT: But seriously, at your current weight of 173lbs, 260g/day of protein is perfectly safe for you.

Loads of people harp on about protein causing kidney damage. You would have to eat a hell of a lot more than your current intake to cause any real damage (assuming you don't suffer with any existing nephropathy).

I performed a lit. review for The Anabolic Index and was surprised to discover that more than 10% of people may have an asymptomatic renal dysfunction. In other words, high protein intake may ultimately be harmful to a small minority of people, but it doesn't seem as though we definitively know what the consequences might be. I am absolutely NOT perpetuating the myth that high protein intake is universally harmful.
