Received a letter from the Identity & Passport Service telling me that im required to attend an interview to confirm my identity as this is my first adult passport..WRONG! i had my first passport in 1978 and according to these bumwipes they can find no record of it but the best laugh is my local office is in Stirling and they cant give me an interview for FOUR weeks and the Glasgow office is closed so i now need to go to Edinburgh for the first available appointment which is in ..wait for it TWO weeks!! and all this whilst they search for my "lost" passport details AAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

I think we can expect more of these stories over the coming months. Must be quite annoying for you!

The list of incompetencies I suffered firsthand with the IPS a few months ago is ridiculous.

You have my genuine sympathy.

Because of the inevitable teething problems that come with any new system, in this case the new requirement to attend an interview for your first adult passport. Bear in mind also that IPS has had many system breakdowns in the past.

Mine was a "straightforward" renewal. No problems with anything, apart from staff who constantly mislaid forms, didn't communicate with each other and didn't read anything.

Really poor standard of personnel. I can't emphasise that enough. I was actually surprised once I stopped being annoyed.

I got a letter telling me that I was to attend an interview too, phoned them up and got an appointment for the following day, although Im guessing the closer we get to summer the longer thing are going to take.

The interview takes about 5 minutes max! so dont go putting all your cash in the parking meter. Felt like a waste of time to be honest.

I recieved my passport about 6 days later!

Do you mind saying what they asked you? I've been wondering what's in it, that and the fact that I'm damned nosey.

They ask you questions about the applications you sent to them, such as

"Can you please spell your full name?, first, middle, and last?"
"How did you send us your application?" (eg post, email, courier service, pigeon etc)
"What was your answer for question, blah blah ect)

They basicly go over a few questions in your application and match it up to what they have on thier computer,,, if you dont know the answer they then hint to the correct one!! all seemed pretty pointless.

Thanks for that - I've been ever so curious! As you say does sound a bit pointless. I was wondering if they were going to do "are you now,or have you ever been a member of a terrorist organisation" type stuff.
