to stand out abit i suppose. i used to get called skinny aswell which dented my confidence alot

sometimes though i just think can i be fcuked with this anymore. then i think well ive come this far...

im fairly young to be taking training as seriously as i do. i look at facebook profiles of people my age and its all parties, out on town and travelling pics. but there is always a flipside as none of those type of people are in particularly good shape.

all things considered my life is better with training definatley, however i think its a double edged sword. once you get out of the honeymoon period of training you have to re-assess your goals and what you want from training.

i wanted to look sh1t hot for the burds at the start in all honesty ill hold my hands up to that. nowadays that motive is still there because im young dumb and single but i do get a sense of well being after a good session. however youll never see me in the gym in a vest etc im always hooded up.

i think another motive which hasnt been mentioned is to impress your fellow trainer, its almost a subconscious test of masculinity

I do it because it has given me so much. Because when i put the work in, and when i push harder than i thought possible, it rewards me accordingly. Not much in life does that for you nowadays. Three years ago i was the skinniest thing you had ever seen, nowadays im a totally different person. People who knew me a few years ago, dont even recognise me, and those who do are often utterly stunned at the change.

With our lifestyle, the rewards can be great, therefore, so must the cost.

Swift just because you lift a few weights and eat a strange diet doesnt meen you cant go out to parties/town, go traveling.

Never let the iron hold you back in life, lifting should help you get to were you want to be and what you want to do- in all aspecs of your life.

a mix of all the answers above, i started because i hated being skinny.

i dont like the idea of being skinny again, i like to push my body as hard as i can, i love the pain and sweat.

i can relate a lot with this and read it quite often

and then one day we stop !

I totally get the whole wanting to be big thing , who wouldnt want broader shoulders and strong looking arms , training is a solid pass time and can have great health benefits

i still do resistance training and love it, but im no longer bothered about my size

I also had an altercation with the coffin at the same funeral, although it didn't look like a coffin to me. An easy mistake to make in my opinion.

I changed my username several months ago my love

Agree though, misquoting isn't macho, but it can be amusing. You know this

As for the question at hand..

Stems from a poor self image I guess. Hated being skinny with a passion, got quite depressed and lost all my confidence. Then met (my now ex mrs) who recovered from anorexia and her willpower just opened my eyes really, I decided to stop being such a loser, get off my arse and do something about the way I felt. So joined a gym, even though I wasn't training properly I felt better just for trying.

I now love training, honest to god I dread to think what would happen if I couldn't do it anymore. I'd lose my mind! I cant really describe the satisfaction I get from lifting something heavy off of the floor, it just makes me buzz.

So I can walk confidently down the street without people seeing me as a target

So females see me as an attractive person naked (Shallow, but true)

Structure to my life

A damned good hobby

Health benefits, coming from a family with a background of cancer and heart disease

How can you feel pleasure if you haven't felt pain and sacrifice?
