187 -> seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 22:34:34)

Spent £2200 on a new laptop a year ago.
within the first week it showed signs of a problem with the screen so it was sent back to have a new monitor module fitted... problem solved.

then about 6 months later a slight flicker on the screen occurs and the touchpad lifted up. sent back... 14 days later pc returned, new cable and new touchpad.

touchpad lifted again so sent back AGAIN... 14 days later got pc back... new touchpad.

then a few weeks ago pc flicker got bad again and touchpad lifted.

sent back to rock... new touchpad fitted, new cable, new motherboard, new power adapter on mb. complete overhaul.

now tonight, i post up that i might sell it... and the now ****ing screen has ****ing died!!! it has a big 2" ****ing stripe going down the middle of it where either the cable wasnt fitted or the screen is packing up... the touchpad has lifted up again and the power ac adapter has died... im so ****ing angry. and i dont know what to do.

the pc was bought by card but its over a year old.

the warranty is in the air as rock have just gone into recievership and the brokers are selling it (if they can find a buyer)

orange86 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 22:50:29)

wat make and spec was the lappy?
for the price u paid, did you consider getting extended warrenty?

bigscottishbastard -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 22:51:16)

Are rock the laptop manufacturer? Never heard of them.

187 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 22:55:10)

yes they make gaming laptops... which i later found out are just up specced clevo laptops.
rivals to alienware etc.

i wanted a high end pc that was mobile... in hindsight i would have built another powerhouse desktop but after being on an alienware and loving the portability etc to be able to take my work where ever i went i chose the rock laptop.

i have a 3 year warranty on it but the company have gone bankrupt and ive been told that for at least 14 days no pc will be taken in or given back.
some people have thier laptops still at rock but cannot get tham back as the delivery company is owed money etc

its a rock ctx pro dual core 2.3ghx 2gb ram 712mb graphics.

nightmare
nothing I can add really, I'd phone up the card people and see if it was insured via them or something

187 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 23:05:14)

does anyone have a clue about pc repairs? as to how much it would roughly cost for a pc company to look at it?
do they have set fees or is it a per hour thing? ive never used a pc company before...

i might get it fixed then sell it for whatever i can and build a new pc myself.

187 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 23:07:24)

my mum worked for hsbc for some years and reckons i dont have a chance.
as its over a year it would be unlikely i would get maney back etc and they would ask me to wait until all the bankrupcy stuff has been dealt with.

reading more about rock it seems an employee stole a load of equipment which meant they couldnt fulfill orders which in turn meant suppliers didnt get paid, they had accounts stopped so couldnt build more pc's and due to this had no income so went broke.

nightmare is a good word to sum this up.

orange86 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 23:23:17)

specs look good considering its 1yr old.

i'd always go for big brand lappys like alienware, dell xps, tosh, etc

187 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 9 2008 23:27:57)

well rock are as big as alienware, they use some of the same pc's
alienware are just rebranded machines... and dell come from factories in china which i can buy (as long as i buy 50 at a time)

tiny etc were a big company but they went broke i believe... its a shame, nothing seems to be safe at the moment.

Thats alot of money for a laptop.

I persoanlly never pay more than £500 for a pc or laptop,my latest is the free laptop with AOL,and i have never had any probs.

I actually think its pretty decent considering i got it free and my bro pays the AOL bill.[:D]

I think we are safer due to the fact that Tiny went to the ****ter to be honest.

I fix laptops mate, if its just a dodgy monitor connection its easily fixed. Sounds more like a loose gfx bus connection, but impossible to say without seeing it.

Probobly has the same orginal screen in it as yours mate!

187 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 10 2008 2:44:48)

very true lol.
ive been doing some digging, and there are only about 3 big computer manufacturers in the world. clevo make most of the laptops that everyone buys, alienware, rock, saber, etc etc all from clevo.
and looking into chinese companies things like hp, gateway, dell, etc are all made by one or 2 factories.
ive already got contact details for selling leads in china for dell and hp pc's i can buy them either branded as dell or with my own logo on with a minimum 50pc order size.
now i know from experience this is a guide as when i imported guages they said i had to buy 2000 but i actually bought 32 on my first order.

i cant see it being that hard to mirror what rock setup.
basically you place an order, and over the space of 2 weeks they order the parts, get them shipped and then your pc arrives.
they were just the middle men, and the 72 hour times they quoted were because they saved up a small stock of machines.
exactly the same as dell, only they have a much larger stock.

orange86 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 10 2008 13:01:05)

TIME/TINY computers were terrible.

i had a time pc and nothing but trouble with it!!

187 -> RE: seriously angry!!! :( (May 10 2008 13:04:35)

monitor has just popped again.
im wondering wether to just take this thing apart myself.

Tiny were funny, no matter what you deleted off that pc tiny reinstalled it automatically.
i still have a tiny pc somewhere, a 486 i think. either that or its a p2
