My fiancee has got her 20 week scan on Monday, hopefully the babys fine but we can also find out the sex of the baby.

From the start we said we wanted to know but im not so sure i want to now and that it should be a suprise, my fiancee wants to know.

Aint got a clue how to add a poll so i cant but should i find out or not and who didnt ask and who did

Carl

i'd wanna know just so i didn't spend loads of time tryin to get unisex clothes and tryin to kit the nursery out for either way

erekose -> RE: To Find Out Or Not (May 10 2008 13:22:59)

Both myself and my ex wanted to know so we asked. As irrational as it sounds we were both convinced she was having a girl anyway, so it seemed more of a confirmation than anything else.

I can imagine that there might be some difficulties should you be in a position where one knows but the other doesn't.

Rosc0PColtrane -> RE: To Find Out Or Not (May 10 2008 13:28:18)

We didn't at 20 weeks. Though we just have at 34. It's enabled us to buy things that are appropriate, instead of just white. On our first scan at 7 weeks, the scanning nurse didn't call it baby or bump. For some reason she called it Douglas. We found that funny and from the 7th week, the bump has been Douglas. We have no intention of calling our baby that. It just stuck. After the 20 week scan, we decided we should find out because we'd automatically asisgned a sex to our baby from calling it Douglas. We needed to be able ajdust our mind set up front, or not, depending on the sex.

There's a strong arguement for either course of action. Some like the surprise (like a baby isn't a surprise enough!), some think more practically. I'm glad we found out. It's been great knowing!!

If you don't plan on telling people what the sex is until it arrives, wait for the next scan. Keeping that secret these past 2 weeks has been hell. I'm glad we didn't find out nearly 20 weeks ago!

We had that scan a couple of weeks ago.I wanted to know and my girlfriend didnt so as a result we didnt find out.My girlfriend seems to think from the scan its a girl although christ knows how as they try to stay away from 'the area' if you dont want to know.Even if you dont want to know there will be a split second where you have second thoughts when actually asked on the day.I know my girlfriend wavered but stayed stong in the end.

I didnt know there was another scan at 34 weeks.After the 24 week scan I thought the lady who did ours said they wont see us again until the babys born.

Rosc0PColtrane -> RE: To Find Out Or Not (May 10 2008 13:37:32)

Ahh, Laura had a low placenta, they needed to check it moved ok. You're right, 20 weeks is the last one, unless you go for one of those 4d jobs.

cleg -> RE: To Find Out Or Not (May 10 2008 13:41:02)

Oh right.Those 4d scans are freaky.Bloody pricey as well.

Rosc0PColtrane -> RE: To Find Out Or Not (May 10 2008 13:45:34)

Yeah, bl00dy expensive and freaky. We saw loads on 34 weeks. You could see the mouth opening and closing, outline of the lips too. Excellent. Scans are ace.

Congratz, I would rather know but its down to you buddy only you truely know if you what to know.

mattspiers -> RE: To Find Out Or Not (May 12 2008 17:36:06)

Congrats mate, we had our 4d scan 3 weeks ago, expensive but worth it.

We found out the sex at 20 weeks, as people have said above, just so you dont have to buy crappy unisex clothes and so you can decorate the nursery to suit..

Good luck pal.

Thats what we paid mate...

Thats the whole package though, small pics (normal scan size) two big pics and dvd.

Egg the dvd off, its a waste of money.. without the dvd I think they charge about 110-120

A little bit better!

Money well spent imo though, for the whole hour session you will have the stupidest grin on your face!

Good luck.. whatever you decide to do..

Mines a little lad.. 1st one and cant wait.. they think hes gonna come in at about 10lbs! A fat sod, just like his old man.
