Hey, I'm in need of help to train for fire fighter combat challenge. One of the drills require sledge hammer striking use.

This is exactly what I mean : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e76CRlikaeo

This video is the whole drill done in the fastest time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsx3lihkoJY&feature=related

I want to know any good exercise to train for the sledge hammer part without using any real sledge hammer and metal block?

So far I thought of something like this to help me for my over all drills but I'm not sure if it should be change or what

Monday- Power Cleans
Barbell Rows
Barbell Curls / Abs

Tuesday- HIIT (Wearing 70 lb suit compared to normal 50lbs of what is used), Plyometrics

Wednesday- Incline Bench Press
Barbell Shoulder Presses
Tricep Dips / Abs

Thursday- HIIT (Wearing 70 lb suit compared to normal 50lbs of what is used), Plyometrics

Friday- Back Squats
Barbell Leg Deadlifts
Calf Raises / Abs

Try overhead pulls with a dumbell , I find this an effective exercise and find imagining swinging an axe or hammer during the movement helps to visualise the action. I also find it helps with shoulder flexibility, the first few reps make can make my shoulders squeal untill they get used to the path of motion of the limb/joint.
