stone14 -> twitching while falling asleep? (May 10 2008 19:42:58)

when you are falling asleep does anyone's feet or hands or neck twitch and wake them up, repeatedly?
it does to me if im tired an start drifting off thro the day but when im in bed at night when im supposed to go to sleep im fine.
i was falling asleep on my lasses bed 2day just chilling and my hands and legs kept twitching every time i was nearly asleep, waking me bad up? is this cause my body want to stay awake of sumthing?

Happens to me all the time also stone...dunno why but im always just about to fall asleep and i twitch. Quite funny as i normally watch tv with the misses in bed, i tell her im watching it and then she feels me twitching and shouts telling me if im not watching tv to turn it off. lol

My misses constantly twitches in her sleep, it is the most annoying thing. When she wakes me with her twitcing i make sure i return the favour by giving her a sharp elbow lol. I am a nice person, honest.

Slightly more salt in my diet seems to help when I get these.

Skrewdriver -> RE: twitching while falling asleep? (May 10 2008 21:17:11)

I get this, - sometimes I enjoy it, - often it happens when you're REALLY comfortable and relaxed and you fall asleep very quickly.

I half remember reading somewhere (probably bollocks) that its' your body intentionally waking you up because it might be dangerous to fall asleep so quickly for some reason (can't remember anymore!)

I remember on QI they said it was possibly some reflex left over from when we were monkeys to stop us falling out of trees.

Roger Mellie -> RE: twitching while falling asleep? (May 11 2008 0:13:49)

I do this, but often do it in reponse to a kind of dream I have when ahlf asleep and hal awake. I sometimes think I am walking then I see a ditch in the road and jump very suddenyl. Other times I have had footballs passed to me. In every case these require me to jolt myself awake.

my girl likes to twitch, kick and sleep talk, and i like to shout when im waking up and punch lol

OoOGazOoO -> RE: twitching while falling asleep? (May 11 2008 10:52:30)

I get this occasionally, not twitching though.

It's like an involuntary movement, only 1 twitch, be it my arm or my leg and it wakes me up.
