After how long would oats be digested and absorbed? On another note, if you eat rice and tuna at lunch around 12 ish and train 5 hours later, will the meal be all digested and absorbed and ready to give provide you with energy during the work out? And if I have another meal at 2 and some more oats & egg whites one hour before training, will the later be absorbed to fuel my session or is one hour too close to training? I think it would be useful to know how long our stomach takes to digest food in order to plan meals accordingly, don't you think?

I have no idea how long it takes for oats to start topping-up muscle glycogen and for how long after consumption. I think that rice would provide some muscle glycogen by 5 hours after consumption but don't ask me how much. When you're bulking, you're in Caloric surplus and eating plenty of carbs, so muscle glycogen is most unlikely to ever get too depleted to fuel your workout. When you're cutting, you're in Caloric deficit and eating less carbs, so muscle glycogen may get too depleted to fuel your workout if carb intake is too low pre-WO. If you run out of glycogen during your WO, you'll know pdq and you can swallow some fast carbs. Next time, eat more carbs pre-WO.

Yeah i thought the same, however i figure our body will take a few hours for most meals and ive seen figures thrown around like 6hours for fatty meats(or days in some cases) to 5hours for plain carbs and whatever else. No idea where these figures came from though! So from personal experience i found getting carbs atleast 6hours before a workout, then more 3hours before made me feel full of energy for training. Now on training days ill have slightly more carbs for breakfast, then some at maybe 12pm, then 3pm, then ready to train around ~6, pwo is 7ish. Where as with carbs just 3hours before, i didnt feel as energetic - i dont think this was a placebo effect, but perhaps.

Buy a glucometer. Eat the oats, monitor the blood glucose rise and subsequent drop. Once it's dropped off back to near-normal, it's a fair bet the oats have either been used as an energy source or been used to restock depleted glycogen. There's no "holding area" for converted glucose per se. I was reading an article written by a top amateur bodybuilder the other day where he proclaimed it took 72 hours for any carb source to reach the muscle. Question - once it's left the bloodstream, where does it go for the 67 to 71.5 hours before appearing in the muscle? Is it at a bus stop, queueing?
