right a simple poll for you, i know we have a taos section but i think it applies to natural trainers as well

basically, do you think an increase in peoples awareness of how steriods work and why they are used would alter peoples opinions on their use?

the reason i ask is that i get asked a fair deal in work if i am on gear, and someone tonight tried to tell me that steroids make you bigger even of you do not train but she didnt know the side effects (i stated the ones i know, being clean) she just thought that they turned you into an animal

i explained that this is often an excuse for people with issues anyway (the sort of peopel who do not post on here but do steds on poor diet and mix it with e's, coke, etc)

this sort of follows onto the thread the other day about how people viewed the use of steriods as being worse then the use of heroin

the use of heroin is being highlighted in hollyoaks but the last time i heard of gear abuse/use being documented in anything other then a documentary was in neighbours where the bloke smashed things up and then came off
apart from rise of the footsoldier of course

the lady in question found it quite surprising that i knew a fair amount about gear despite claiming to be clean, i explained i looked at orals at one point (my mate was getting rid) so i did my research and changed my mind

Well yeah, the reason people think they are so bad is due to the media, and peoples lack of personal education on the subject.
I used to have a clouded view of steroids until i visited this site.

i agree that the media doesnt help but having worked in numerous bars/clubs/pubs in rich-kid areas cocaine use is much more of a problem, obviously

however it seems trendy to do snow, even to the extent where i have witnessed people snorting sugar (demerara sugar) out of a bag on a key in an attempt to make it look like they had money (when coke was expensive)

in my opinion smackheads are the lowest of the low, i have encountered many in my time

but
a) people assume if your arms are over say 14" (even if theyre pretty fat like mine) that you are on the juice, i have no problems with people thinking this and often take it as a compliment
b) i have done some research and the number of people being reported with AS is noweher near that of other drugs (not surprising)

i would be interested in peoples views as i have had people look at me like i am the **** they leave down the toilet whereas ifi was putting a bit of white stuff up my nose i would be a hero

I know plenty of these people and they are still massive, a lot of the time i think they go hand in hand. People say they will never take drugs, they dont say i'll never take drugs but i'll take the roids, they dont take drugs cus they think ppl will look down on them, including steroids(hence a lot of people lying bout ther use, same with any drugs).

From what i read on here, a lot of people take roids and a lot of people take coke and e's. Its funny when people try and explain how steroids are way different because if you dont abuse them your fine, same with any drug really.

Id actually love to know the figures for people tht die of drug related issues and which drug. Funny how when a wrestler etc die the coke takers blame the roids and the roid takers blame the coke.

Would peopel be any different with their steoid abuse if they lived in America?

http://www.ic.nhs.uk/statistics-and-data-collections/health-and-lifestyles/drug-misuse/statistics-on-drug-misuse-england-2007-full-report

download it in excel mate, i was looking before, theres loads of tabs on everything to number of reported uses, deaths, possesions, etc

some of them are quite interesting

i personally think that people would still frown upon people even if they knew about it

The media show what they want to show - steroids as being the devil.

You could bet that if the media started trying to teach people what they're like, most people would tune out. They want to hear the bad sides only. Not many people want to hear of the good unless it benefits themselves. I wonder how much of the public know that even some of their heroes (that trained) juiced in the day, and how these people now despise steroids, saying it WILL kill you, it WILL make you bald and it WILL cause you to smash n bash things. The most funny thing is that a fair amount of these people will say, "you have to read between the lines when it comes to the news" yet are being purposely ignorant themselves.

The best line ever said, "hypocracy is you".

depends... at the moment no as the media put a negative tint on it all.

if it was pre- man who's arms exploded going on TV and stuff like that then yes.

the the HBO report was put out on TV I think people would see them differantly.

All this thread contains is personal conjecture. The fact of the matter is steroids HAVE PROVEN to cause lifetime health problems, sometimes devestating health problems. Use all you want but don't be equally as ignorant as those that only have a negative view of steroids

So its been proven that everybody who has or does use steroids regardless of cycle/dosage will develop life long health problems?

Rubbish. Indeed medical ethics prohibit long term tests with decent amounts and even the ****tiest of documentaries has said the same.

if you use steds for a prolonged period like 12 cycles in 10 year period from your early 20's, will that have effects later on when your 50+ ?
providing your diet and training (weights and cardio) are nailed.

Without completely dismissing the stupid post of earlier the answer is yes. IF we agree, in simple terms, that by using AAS you replace the bodies naturally produced testosterone then long term use will basically shut down or cause cessation of natural production.

After all diet and training will not, being frank, get the bollocks working again will they? All they do, as we usually hope for, is get us to look good. A healthy diet helps, obviously, with keeping us healthy but doesn't keep the body producing it's own testosterone when we shut it down by using gear.

As per the actual question ignorance of the issues, side effects, use thereof and so on regarding steroids are beyond stupid. To use a word (misused) by 'musclequest' most opinions on the subject (both pro and anti) are conjecture. Low dose, short and even long term use (in males with low testosterone and in receipt of testosterone therapy) can be managed quite well. More so if blood tests and side effects are monitored.

By the same token and where the issue of education would be a great help use and misuse of many commonly available OTC meds and chemicals carry far higher risks of health issues. Be those tobacco, alcohol, pain killing tablets and so on. One of the docs mention (HBO) and at least one other (it was on Nat Geo on freeview the other night) mentioned quite clearly the main org responsible for investigation and monitoring of legal and illegal use of AAS had NOT wanted it's change to a higher/worse classification (equiv to a class A drug from a class C). It has been shown that ONE OTC med has killed outright and directly both direct and via side effects far more people IN ONE YEAR than has ever been attributed (note the use of that word) to ANY roid. Read that line again. One pain killing med, leagall available over the counter killed more in one year than any roid ever.

Roids are demonized as one other member said. Are their safety issues and potential side effects - of course. Is it as bad as it's made out? No.

It might sound like moralizing on my part (as a user) but I dislike those using before their mid 20's at the absolute earliest and then subject to all other avenues being explored first.

I voted yes because there was a special on discovery channel over here once and it came on when a bunch of us were in my dorm in college and everyone changed their views on them once they learned how they work. I think people fearing them is as simple as the saying people fear that which they do not know, its human instinct. If you don't know what something is or how it works, what it will do, etc. then you fear it out of instinct simply to avoid any harm.
