hi guys i have a bit of problem with my shoulders blades stems from a bad posture all through childhood and puberty and now i hunch forward which makes my should blades stick out and make my back look a bit odd. I was thinking if i broden my chest it will help push my blades back a bit is this true and if so, any good exercises to do so? and in turn help my posture ive been to see a physio a year back and she said that when most people sit up right the base of thier spine goes 'in' the back well mine is flat straight down so when im stood up it is curved outwards at the base-not visibly just so you know what my situation is. cheers

Was your physio not able to offer any help? Is there a structural defect, or just posture that can be corrected? Wheels

best way to fix your problem is to sit straight with shoulders back to reteach your bone structure, like braces with your teeth. everytime you sit you should sit straight as possible with your shoulders back, also the tensing of the lower abs will pull your spine in the way you want. it will be fixed about as fast as it took to bend out of shape, no easy fix on this one. a larger chest will push your shoulders back alitte but you still haven't fixed the problem which could lead to injury

Work on your rotator cuff, rhomboids, posterior delt and lower traps. Avoid chest work as it will make it worse. Stretch off your chest, lats and upper traps.

I had a similar problem at a young age, as I grew stronger my posture got better and better, more up-right. So focus on all major body-parts, give it time, focus on youre back more so, but don,t sacrifice weight for style!! Good luck and be patient

Try looking up 'winging of the scapula' - it's a fancy name for some sort of imbalance in the muscles of the shoulders. Sounds like the shoulders are the problem, not your lower back (i'm no physio tho). I went to a physio with this problem though - years of bad posture and my sleeping position probably did it, and chest exercises didn't help. My shoulder got too painful to bench press with properly. The physio gave me rotation exercises for the shoulder and told me to do more stretching across the bicep/front delts. It's also about retraining yerself like Autiger said - hold your shoulders back even when it feels silly. Good luck!
