Im thinking of buying a bike to go cycling, would you guys think this is a good thing to buy to loose weight?

or stick to the cross trainer and invest in a powertec rack

I have the money to get a good bike or a new rack as currently i just have a bench

So the choices are

http://www.dalescycles.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SPECROCCMP08

or

http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/barbell_benches/powertec_workbench_bench___rack_system_with_pull_up_bars_yellow/8105_p.html

Any Advice!

Thanks

Chris

If you like to go out, then get the bike, if not then the trainer

I would say get the bike, getting out and about is a much better way to make cardio more interesting I find. Although that depends on what cycling is like where you live. Also, £750 seems a huge amount of money to spend on a bike, why not get a cheaper one and invest in a rack as well?

Go for the bike, much more fun!! I much prefer pumping iron in the gym too!

Just bought a Specialized Rockhopper...cracking bike indeed, great choice!! I bought the normal disc version which cost me £600 notes, don't think the pro disc warrants the extra £150, forks slightly better spec as is the rear derailliar...frame and brakes the exact same. Go for the standard disc version, you won't be disappointed!!

Bike Pros:
-Exercise with changing scenery
-Use it instead of a car for short journeys
-Excellent for SS CV and HIIT

Bike Cons:
-Running is cheaper for CV

Rack Pros:
-Work out whenever you want

Cons:
-No gym environment (everyone works harder in a gym)
-Not a lot of choice - only a few exercises
-Expensive
-Difficult to move and set up
-Bike would be better!

Get the bike in my opinion.

Dude, dont get a rockhopper there crap, ive destroyed 3 frames in 5 years, so went onto bigger and better things, IE a specialized bighit, fully customized (£3000+ worth, which is for sale for £750 as i have to get rid)
dont go hardtail though, get something with a good rear shock at the least, as now, you can lock them out to turn them into hardtails for road and flat use, then offroad you have the shock option too. thats just my opinion from racing them and biking at high level for 8 years, but its your call at the end of the day.

id say go for the rack.

Sounds like you had some bad luck with the Rockhopper I assume you had replacement frames each time as they must have been faulty?

I have several friends who have Specialized Rockhoppers and Stumpjumpers who swear buy them...these boys are hardcore bikers too not novices and none of them have had any problems besides with the Rock shox on any specialized model.
