Changing first name?? - 12 May 2008 20:01
I was wondering if anyone has changed they're first name, like to be known by a different name or what people think about doing so. And does your name in some way define who you are?

I dont really like my first name as its pretty dull and I think its phonetically week if you know what I mean (no offence to any other Iains). It seems that people put so much effort into choosing baby's names, I dont want some theatrical Tarquin-esque name, I just wouldn't have chosen mine.

I just don't know if I'd feel a bit of a fraud changing my name after 28 years or whether its really that important at all. I'm not looking to reinvent myself or anything but will be moving to a new area soon so it might be easy to do.

I'm not in the serious contemplation stage yet, just thought I'd get some opinions

If you have a middle name that you prefer you could use that as I do and yes I think there is alot to be said about the name you use, strange because it shouldn`t, but it does.

Funny you should say that, some Americans just cant pronounce Iain and Eon is the word that comes out of they're mouths, pisses me right off!

Plus its a bit too Sci Fi for me.

Have you got a decent middle name?A few people in my family have adopted their middle names cos they dislike their first names.

Go for "McLovin"

Seriously though, is it not a bit late in the game to change a first name? After 28 years you will still be called Iain, even if your name is now Max Power.

Max Power, worked for homer

My g/f's eldest changed his surname via deed poll, was pretty straightforward.
