Totally echo your post Osagi. This insidious increase of 'lads' posts is bringing the overall tone of General down. There are those that will argue this is a weight training/BBing site so will be frequented by lads hence the nature of the posts so put up with it, but as I see it, the main protagonists of this puerile posting bring nothing to the board except mindless banter - never anything training related, which begs the question "do some of these people train" and if not why are they even posting on MT? There's the other point that the board owners are keen to get a mix of male and female members and this type of posting drives the female members away. Well it's not only the females that get fed up with the dirge of "phwoooar she's fit/I'd hit it/tits/arse" posts. I'd imagine a huge majority of the membership of MT are bored senseless with the constant stream of knuckle-dragging remarks which ultimately gather momentum and lead to whole posts of the same. I'm not going to single any one particular member or members out, that's up to the board owners, but if you're reading this thinking "that sounds like LMC's talking about me", maybe perhaps have a good think about what you're posting and more so why.

I must admit that whilst I love MT, the general section has been getting a bit childish and purile recently. Not just with the 'she's fit' threadas etc, but in general (no pun intended)

So your answer to improving the quality of posting in the General forum is to invent a new forum dedicated to puerile banter and sexist commentary? How may I ask would this aid the board owners' desire to improve the quality of certain members contributions toward the forum, not to mention how would this 'lads forum' be perceived by prospective new members looking on? No my friend, far better to eliminate this problem by removing the cause, rather than simply giving the less mature members of the forum a new playground to hang about in. If you disagree I'd like to hear your reasons why Swift, maybe have 6 pints and a little think about it before responding however. Osagi

ORIGINAL: swift As for LMC's post well i dont think its a good idea that a mod questions whether people train, brings the tone of the forum down Why not? There are thousands of forums available for use. I imagine people however, join one that they have an affiliation with. What seems to be creeping in though is a raft of members with nothing on their agenda other than post drivel and nonsense, never touching on the weight training side of things. There isn't a criteria to be met when joining the board in terms of training age, ability, strength, weight, dedication, achievements, motivation, size, aims, goals. That's the beauty of the board - everyone is welcome. There is however, a set of guidelines which members should adhere to: quote:
MT will maintain the high quality of posting. Members are requested to refrain from posting an undue amount of banter in order to respect the high quality of atmosphere on the board. Whilst it is necessary as part of discussions to disagree, argue and debate with other members, flaming, rude and impolite replies will not be tolerated. If a member continues to post in such negative way, there membership will be terminated. What you'd hope is that members of a weight training board would probably prefer to see topics relating to weight-training plus general chit-chat rather than the pendulum firmly weighted towards laddish posting with the occasional weight training post thrown in for good measure. That is why I question why people join up to post crap when there's a plethora of other sites that will allow you to do this with with the benefit of no swear filters and no moderators. If I questioned whether people trained based on their physiques then I agree, I'd be well out of order.

Osagi Other than giving childish banter a "special place" i don't think you'll ever get rid of it from genral forum. Unless you have a very strict policy and start banning people left right & centre ... So maybe it would be an idea to have a lad's section so you could brush it under the carpet so to speak...If you dont like these type of post's then don't look in the section.. Therefore maybe cleaning up the genral forum.. i don't usually contribute to these post's but some are quite funny if only just for a laugh. A few are a bit over the top agreed but they keep appearing so there must be a need so to speak.. EB

I feel that there is a 'tipping point' where the children outnumber the grown ups and and the further towards or past that point the board goes the greater the momentum taking the whole place into the playground. It used not to be like this, I'm sure. Or am I just less tolerant?

Or is that your intention?

IF the amount of members that welcomed such laddish posts were in the majority and IF the board owners actually wanted to take the forum in this direction (downhill) then maybe giving in to these posts would be the answer. However it appears that the number of members that actually appreciate such posting is in fact in the minority and it's certainly not the board owners intention to allow a few members free reign to ruin a bloody good online community which we've all worked worked so hard to build, members included, therefore as you say maybe taking the hard line 'zero tolerance' approach is the only answer. Osagi Osagi maybe your right with the zero tolerance. Just would be a shame to lose board member's for a poor taste post or two.
