Would someone like to post up a brief <simple> summary of what the judges are looking for in the various categories or link to same.

Thank you very much.

A Nidiot

p.s.
I did google but made myself even more confused.

hey mate, even I get confused

Best thing to do is check the links in the comp section to the various associations (see comp calender http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/bodybuilding-competition-diary.aspx ) and check through on each site. They do all vary.

No fear, I like my (literal and metaphorical) meat and potatoes too much.

I was actually trying to edumacate myself to be able to offer more intelligent comment on posted pics.
Not very easy though is it?

I wonder if there's a Ladybird book

Mr Jedi, although the guidelines are on the Feds pages I do think that it is a bit subjective to be honest. Feedback from the judges from my comp all co firmed that more leanness was required along with more defined posing. However my stage craft was good although I wasnt quite bling enough for the NABBA stage!

If u find the holy Grail of information, do let me know!

I agree, it seems they make there mind up on the day.

I entered the NABBA NW sunday just gone, and was not placed, which came as a bit of a shock, as i thought i had what they were looking for. There needs to be some clear set guielines for the toned catergory, as it is very sketcy from the rules. Also if you look at past winners there is a huge variation in shape and defintion, from those who have placed 1-4th in this catergory.

They seriously need to get there act together, this class has been running 3 years now, and they have still not figured it out

Rant Over

Hi Andrea,

I wasn't at the show, but I saw pics of your class(don't know who you are in the pic): to me the ideal shape & condition needed for the Nabba Toned class is the one Natalie Wood had (placed 2nd last year at the Britain).

She had just enough muscle to still remain curvy, & her condition was perfect.

I think any girl who want to enter the Tone class should try to achieve that type of look...

I saw girls showing not sign of training at all: yes, they have to be softer than Trained Figure , but they need a bit of shape too.

Good post this one! I'm very confused over what is expected in each category and the names of them, because doesn't it vary depending on which organisation is holding the competition?
Physique and body fitness... whats the difference?
Toned figure and figure?
Which competition is it that you have your free 90 sec or something for free posing, but not doing the "dancing" act... or is that optional to do maybe?

Hi Malika,

I was not in the Picture, I was the tall girl (andrea H) , with the salmon/Red Bikini.

Too be honest, i think my height played a big part, as i am 5'11 with no shoes and the shoes must of added another 5inches to my overall appaerance. But everyone will have a different opionion.

I dieted and trained immensly for this comp, with the best advice and guidance going. Yes i agree, natalie wood, is a ideal look of what is 'toned look' but if you prepared yourself, this way, you probalby still get overlooked. This is my take on it. I am still feeling bitter about the whole process, and it makes me think, what they judge on.

Your height?

I would say what matters the most is the symmetry & proportion...

You have to work with what you have, try to balance everything to achieve a nice overall shape.

ie: if you have wide hips, bring up your lats & shoulders...

I can't see why you'd be overlooked if you achieve the same condition of Natalie...

I always say to the girls to look at the previous winners & the ones who place high & try to achieve that kind of look. Makes sens to me...

I'd agree with Malika about Natalie being the perfect "toned" figure: small amount of bodyfat but very lean, good amount of muscle, and still a feminine shape. If the softer look becomes too prevalent (more like a bikini model look), it will make the jump from Toned to Trained too large. Malika and Kath who won Trained Figure at NW last week are IMHO perfect examples of a "trained" figure: still feminine but a lot leaner and drier than the Toned girls, and with a lot more muscle.

Then Bodyfitness for me seems to be similar to Toned Figure, but they seem to be able to have slighter bigger shoulders and legs. Then Physique seems to be different again dependent on the fed; and obviously there's quite a big difference between Physique in the natural feds and those that are non-tested. It's all too much to take in!!

Yes height does play a big part, as if yor next to someone who is a foot smaller, you can come across really tall, and the fact that you loose weight, can make you look thinner than you actually are.

Symetry and proportion does matter, i agree but i will say it again, and if others want to disagree fine. NABBA are not clear on what they want, you can look at all the girls, who have been placed high, and you can aspire to look like them, and it still may be not what they want.

And to add, i never said i acheived the same condition as Natalie, i acheived a condition that was expected through diet and training and led by the rules of 'toned catergory'.

this makes sense to me also.

I think if you want to get it right, pick a class that you feel suits you the best, then do your homework to achieve that look...

I always see girls jumping from one federation to another one in a space of 1, 2 or 3 weeks, which I think is a mistake: how can you prep to compete as a Body Fitness competitor(Efbb), than try to get ready 2 weeks after to compete as a Tone Figure competitor(Nabba)?

These 2 classes have very different criteria...

No if you have built enough muscle on your frame...

Andrea, I presume you're talking about the toned class which would mean yourself and Gemma where the one's not placed?

here is my idiots guide :
NABBA
toned figure- just enough muscle to give a nice shape, not too lean,
trained figure- bigger, leaner, harder, but still elegant and feminine

UKBFF
Bodyfitness- somewhere between toned and trained figure...!! Evident muscularity but not striated
Physique- big and ripped as possible , a slightly different shape to trained figure - more x shaped
Fitness- the category with the fancy routine...dying a death!!

kitty can probably give idiots guide to NPA and BNBF?

Natural 'rules' virtual the same

Physique, as muscular and ripped as possible (but usually a softer and smaller look than the UKFBB and NABBA)
Figure, evidence of training, some level of bodyfat fine, more emphasis on shape and 'athletic' look

If you have good symmetry and proportion then height doesn't come into it. If someone has good symmetry then you should not be able to tell whether they are tall or short when looking at a photo in which there is nothing to relate their size to. Kitty is a superb example of this!

Thanks to all for trying. Closest to Ladybird book so far is gymbabeliz and;
