Guys, heard alot of people mentioning these two items of late when cutting or on a strict diet. What are they and what are their benefits? and I take it they would be available in somewhere like tesco?

Quark is a soft cheese, eaten for the protein content.

It is a casein based product.

Burgen bread contains omega 3s.

Tesco sell both.
The Burgen sells at about £1.37 per loaf and has 20 slices but sometimes you can get it on offer at 99p.

Is it nice mate the quark? I take it despite it being cheese (I am assuming quite high in fat despite protein content) it is ok to have in the morning while on a cut? maybe with some pineapple to add to the taste?

What is this burgen bread like? I usually have hovis wholemeal but could be tempted providing its not too nasty !!? also what is best way to have this in the morning or throughout the day?

I eat wholemeal pitta breads.

There is no fat in quark.

I usually have it before bed with some whole earth natural peanut butter and fish oils.

Quark has no fat in it.

Some people eat it with various flavourings, sweet and savory, but I can't stand the stuff.

I blend it up with some milk or water and put some Options powder in it and it makes a lovely milk shake.

I have it before bed, but I've just invested in a cool bag and I now bring a shake to work. Very quick and easy way of getting 30 odd grams of fat free, slow release protein down you.

I had some Burgen yesterday, I never toast it, just eat it raw - delicious!
Quark is bland and doesn't have flavour, which is great cos you cant actually taste much so eating is not a problem.

Nigel has whole earth natural peanut butter in his diet...nuff said, go get some!

Nice one mate will check it out and get some especially if no fat !!!!!

How often do you have it a day or do you advise only to have it once or maybe twice a day if on a cut/diet.

Whole diet determines how much, when, etc...

Post your diet up at the moment.

Make sure you are including healthy fats and EFAs in your diet.

Foods to eat for omega 3 content -

Flax seeds, flax oil, walnuts, salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines, anchovies, pilchards.

Foods to eat for omega 6 content -

Walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, almonds, rape seed, soybeans, olive oil, grapeseed oil, pine nuts, pistachio nuts, borage oil, chestnut oil.

Foods to eat for omega 9 content -

Canola oil, sunflower oil, olives, avocados, almonds, peanuts, sesame oil, pecans, pistachio nuts, cashews, hazlenuts, macadamia nuts.

Burgen is pretty nice - although high-ish in fat per slice.

Is it best I leave burgen then due to fat content? thinking maybe just stick with wholemeal pittas and maybe the odd wholemeal/granary slice

The fats in the bread are fine.

Just factor them into your diet.

The fats in Burgen (& Vogel's) soya & linseed breads are mostly omega-3 EFAs so get it down your throat. It's also high in protein & fibre and tastes grrrrrrreat!

When I was in Lebanon we used to eat alot of a product called Lebneh which is basically quark. We'd have it in a wrap with chopped cucumber, olives, fresh mint and a sprinkle of olive oil and salt. It was lush! I'm sure something similar could be done with wholemeal pittas ot tortilla wraps! Or even Burgen bread for that matter. Sounds weird but tastes lllluuurvely!

Finally found this stuff, its called meadow churn quark but it says "ideal for cooking and baking" on the front so is it okay for spreading on burgen?
