I've battled with my weight on and off for years, but I have to say the greatest motivator to losing it was when someone would make a remark about it. Some people go the other way though, when they're faced with even the slightest comment, that's often not meant to be hurtful, they instantly turn to food as a crutch, thus making things worse. What say ye?

If im ever fat, being told im a fat minger would motivate me to come back looking ace. If im told im looking good when im lean, it actually lowers my motivation to continue depending on my mindset, goals etc. As i feel i've "done it now" and can stop Strange eh

Personally and from many others I have met, when faced with nasty/derogatory comments about my weight, it makes me turn to food for comfort. Granted I'm nothing like I used to be but I do know it has the complete opposite effect of what some of you have said so far.

i find it hard to understand why anyone would turn to food for comfort after being called fat! Personally, i first got into training because of someone calling me fat, it made me look at myself and say hold on, you're slipping here, something needs 2 be done. But i suppose everyone thinks differently :)

It wasnt on purpose, but because food was the way I dealt with depression. It was my drug. So when I was harrassed, I got depressed, and the only way I knew how to handle that was with food. When I was a child, I really only had two responses to this kind of thing. Option 1 was violence, which got me into a world of trouble, or option 2 was gorging myself with food. Lol brings back a lot of bad memories this post :)

Kind of a bit of both. I was a right whopper for a few years after being ill and getting out of training, and my dad used to make quite harsh comments when I was eating to try and psych me into doing something. Somtimes it'd make me feel worse and turn to cake, but eventually when I got my motivation back to some extent anyway it helped. I think it helps, but only if you're halfway on the road to doing something about it yourself. When I look good I'm actually worse - the slightest little dig fills me with doubt about what I've achieved and sets me back. Kind of like, "Pffft, if that many people reckon I can't compete maybe I should just eat this pie.." I work best with honest constructive criticism (said in a nice way!) and lots of praise at how much I've done so far. And no matter how good I look I still find fault and want to do more.
