LOL boar.
It's to do with training your diaphragm i think. When you exhale and forcibly pull it up even more it creates that effect.
Trained with stomach vacuums IIRC.
Try it - exhale as much as you can then try and pull your abs in even more.

Yeah, vacuums are do-able.
They feel quite unpleasant though.
Also, they look quite '1950s bodybuilder in big, white pants'.

Yep I can do them.
Years of standing around of swimming comps with your in your speado's and there is nothing else to do but see what you are and your team mates can do with your abs.

i do still do vacuums as part of my abs routine.

Its not so much the vacum part it that bit where he can bring the abs out first them the obliques I find rather amusing, wonder if tahts just some form of brain muscle connection!?

I wasn't trying to be funny but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I couldn't tell u the last time I actually did a crunch or sit up etc. Back when I had a 4 pack (never had a 6) I was probably between 12 and 14 stone, tanned and even had a split in my biceps. I've always been into the history side of the sport and I think it was a muscle control expert by the name of Count Saldo (from memory) that sent out medals etc if you could do certain tricks. One was, as above, called 'the rope'. I was even able to do the flex one side then the next.
In those days, far smaller than I am now, I probably had what many girls liked in terms of what they called a muscley physique. I've told the story many times of me sun bathing on my parents balcony in a deck chair and three girls calling up for me (they could see my feet on the railings). So I stand up, all Hawaiian Tropic'd up, tanned to the nth degree, 4 pack, veins and a little muscle (in my mind anyway) and get (damn sweet it was too) all of them going 'oo look at his abs' in a very, very nice way.
Like I said... ages ago. Probably 20+ years and 6-8 stone ago.

I had 2 girls come carol singing round my house and they sang 'I Wish You a Happy Abbmass'. The both got a shot of whiskey and a can of larger for their troubles! It was good to be 18 at times!!!
