I'm a bit of a noob in the weight lifting thing. Been training hard for 8 months now. My strength has nearly doubled but I can hardly notice any size or weight gains. Is this normal could i be overtraining? Also, I've been trying to bulk up by eating more. My body fat percentage in increasing, from 11 to 16%. Is this acceptable? How far can i let this bf build up :S? I'm 27, weight 166 lb (about 75kg) and been training 4 days a week, about 45 minutes, always pushing to failure in the 6-10 rep range.

May I ask a few questios before I start prattling on? How do you measure your bodyfat? Were you 166lbs when you started? What does your Training regime look like? What about your diet, what do you eat and when? How tall are you? Cheers and see you soon.

If your bodyfat percentage has increased from 11% to 16% then you must have gained weight, unless you lost muscle at the same time, which I doubt!

I use a salters scale. Its accurate enough (3 equal readings when used 3 times in a row). It does show me as gaining fat. What i'm really trying to find is if strength is directly proporsional to size or if as a beginner, im likely to start by putting on strenght 1st (muscle becomes more efficient?) thanks

Scales are a computer, and computers rely on measurements. Most will give 3 similar readings if you do three in a row, whether they measure the bodyfat exactly accurately is another matter. Most don't tell the difference between someone who exercises regulary. and someone who doesn't. They also state they may be inaccurate for athletes or bodybuilders. Main question you need to ask yourself, how do you look in the mirror in comparison to when you started. Do you look like you have gained 5% BF? Dave

your strength will always increase more quickly than size to begin, this is natural, size will come with time and continous hard training.
