Took a few weeks to find what worked best for me. your suppose to tuck your elbows into your sides not flare them out Since i started tucking my elbows and putting my shoulder blades together it feels a lot much better. Scruffy - how do you find your CG decline press compares to your max flat bench? Cheers Tom i am actually doing incline close grip presses now, loving them at the end, it is a comp to which fry first, my delts or tri`s...my tri`s used to be so strong from the declines, i could do 80kg a side for 6 reps on the smith machine, gonna take a while to get back there but i will..

agree with john, surely shoulder width (unless you have really narrow shoulders) is a normal bench press? i go slightly wider the nshoulder width on the bench but if you are all struggling with your wrists have you tried skulls? (i know some peopel who have said they do wider grip cgbp will have done)

I tried skullcrushers for a bit a couple of years ago, but I didn't get on with them at all My normal bench is with a fairly wide grip, so shoulder width is narrow for me, even if it's not for others

Shoulder width, perfect for CGBP and smacking the tris with heavy weight. Normal bench isn't near shoulder width, dunno why someone said that. MM

really close, so my thumbs can touch - so maybe 4". Is that bad or good or what? Some of you sound like your doing bench press not close grip

IMO there's a differance between, close, narrow and wide grips. I personally think by my deffinition some people saying they do close grip bench are actually doing a narrow grip bench. I think it's one of those things like what people call pull ups and chin ups.

If you want to use CGBP to be a tricep lift bring your arms in as close as you can handle whislt still tucking. If you want to use CGBP as an assistance lift for you bench press I would not go any narrower than a shoulder width grip.

Cheers Tom i use just before the knurling starts, and keep elbows tucked, for regular benching i flare the elbows and have the arms vertical.....

I've tried several exercises over the years, including skullcrushers with quite some weight. But recently I've discovered that the machine which you sit on and pull a bar on a band from behind your head is making my tris grow like nothing else has. I couldnt believe how effective this machine has been.
