what did people do before mobiles?

I personally don't really understand the mentality of "I need my phone on me at all times on loud and will answer it whatever the situation in case it's an emergency" as we have several dedicated emergency services in this country who wll probably be there faster and do better than you.

I'm not a massive fan of mobiles

Do you take your mobile into the gym and keep it with you whilst training?
If so, do you spend a lot of time texting on it?
I think JJB has a rule where you have to text during every set...

NOTE : I don't take mine... Missus has the gym number in an emergency

Yes and no. I take a phone (mobile or very long distance cordless - good for 25km from eBay) as I will, during a break, book a DHL collection for after the gym work for the business on pick up days.

Used to take it when i first strated training but it turned out to be too much of a distraction. Now it gets left in the locker - i go gym same time everyday and everyone knows this yet they still get pissed off when i dont answer fone.

One guy in our gym was showin off his new phone, 5 mins later he had a smashed lump of plastic where he had dropped his dumbell on it.

what jjb do you go to?

I take it and some times text or make a call if it is important.

Why does making a call suddenly become important within the short space of time you're in the gym? Surely if it's that important you would have done it before hand.

Do you really get bothered by other people being on the phone?

Sure if you are waiting for the kit they are using and they are faffing about it would be annoying, personally I'd simply get on it and let them work in when they are ready, but someone chatting on their phone bothers me no more than someone chatting to their training partner TBH

Not so bad if they go out of ear shot but the last thing I want to listen to is about the previousl nights conquest or where the lads are going that night and what they intend to get up to

I dont make the calls unless i have recieved a message asking for somthing particlar, then il follow it up with a brief call and say il call them back later (genrally work related). I certainly dont hog weights whilst on the phone.

cant see the problem with taking your mobile with you. or using it.

as long as your not stopping other people usigna peice of equipment, by sitting on it.

who cares??!! i certainley couldnt give a fck who does what in the gym tbh.

more annoying are the people who come in a dont excersise properly imo, but take up time/space on equipment that other people could be using

I always have my phone on me at the gym, either in my pocket or on a bench. Always on vibrate too.

In between sets, and if im not talking to anyone, instead of walking about i might send a wee text.. I see nothing wrong with that?

I havent sorted my journal out yet, so the past 3 weeks workouts have been recorded on my mobile in the draughts

I regularly check the time on my mobile because i don't own a watch and my eyesight means id have to strain to see the clock.

Actually, if im texting on my mobile I end up doing my next set probably quicker than i would if i wasn't texting... but thats just me trying to avoid the steroetype some have shown on MT: "Theres a 17year old texting on his mobile on the shoulder press machine... mustn't be doing anything at all, pffff"
