Hi. Im struggling at the mo with the strict diet, i can count on my hands how many times ive had a cheat meal in 2 months so dedication isint the question ! I just find it hard sometimes to keep sane and not fall off the wagon and have the kfc etc. Cheat meal is tomorrow night and so far in my cut im very pleased, just gotta hang on 12 hours............ how does everyone cope if at all ?

Actually 'cheating' can every so often be a positive thing.

Drewsky are you talking in regards to the mental break it gives to prolonged dieting or the physical and hormonal responses to such feedings? I.e. leptin etc.

or not so much cheating but a re-feed carb up. This can stimulate fat burning again after a lo carbs for days, so i hear.

incorporating 'unclean' foods into your diet helps keep cravings/sanity at bay thinking of them as cheats doesn't help eaither

ORIGINAL: R3261 incorporating 'unclean' foods into your diet helps keep cravings/sanity at bay thinking of them as cheats doesn't help eaither also a good way of developing an eating disorder 85/15 clean to dirty is fine in terms of calorie split for clean to dirty. Its food eat it and dont worry so much ever since i stopped counting calories and viewing food as bad/dirty i have come on leaps and bounds with controlling my eating urges and making progress in my physique if you want something then have it, just make sure it doesnt make up the bulk of your calories

Personally when i cut i try to go atleast 3-4 weeks with NO cheats, after this time period is over its habit and my taste buds just love plain good clean tasting foods. Im really a believer in the whole "21 days to make something a habit", and having a weekly cheat would be like giving a drugg a small fix occasionally. However i did have one on the 4th and have had a few "treats" (milky hot chocolate, packet of crisps) here and there since then, but the cheat meal on the 4th really threw a spanner in the works for me and made the following days dieing REALLY hard so i dont plan to have another big cheat meal (Went to a resturant, 5 salad bowls, 5 rolls, 1 starter of nachos and a big combo platter later and i was loving it) that like again any time soon. So ill prob just end my current cut without any, but small treats will keep you sane and cheat meals can help raise leptin levels and restore hormones a little bit (One meal probably doesnt do much to them and its more the psycholigical benifits IMO that they have) its like a holiday from work. Whats your diet like locust? Perhaps the rigidty of a fixed plan with the same foods day in day out is the problem - I personally dont do diet plans like that for that reason, i calorie count daily and eat what i fancy to suit my goals.
My posts are all my opinion and based on current knowledge/understanding.

ORIGINAL: R3261 you've changed your tune mate indeed i have my friend. The more i read the less i progress. I have for 3 weeks now let go of all i have learned and embraced common sense. I have had no desires to binge now. I dont count calories and i dont bloody worry about getting fat because it doesnt happen that fast anyway Pedantics got to me, basics win every single time. I have you to thank for helping me realise that

I simply ensure that my cutting diets are not rediculously tasteless and tedious meals. I essentially eat the same things as when bulking the notable changes are smaller carb portions and less egg yolks. Addmitedly I am only dietting to get 'summer lean' not 'stage ripped' but even here, I only do cardio 4 days a week so have plenty of scope to increase CV before diet gets silly. At the weekends I will have family meals at tea time and probably crisps and nuts in the evening too but nothing that will completely undo my Mon-Fri efforts

Rich, james did my diet its not to different from what i would usually eat. i dont eat much bad stuff anyway might have a few hob nobs with a cup of tea at night and maybe a chicken shish on a friday night but in general i eat very clean. Its more of a mental thing, if i fancy a cookie i cant have it, usually id only have a couple anyway.

Yes, what I would say is that if you would normally, and in all other aspects of your diet you have made alterations, then the odd one now and then will still leave you consuming less cals than you would otherwise so don't fret it

That and youll over compensate because youll end up bingeing as you can only hold back cravings for so long. if your test run is next year then so a test run for a few weeks closer to the time you wanna compete, not a year or less before. why kill yourself for no good reason?

RE the mental side Yeah, being able to relax, realise you have relaxed, know that you can get away with it and then get back to the cleaner foods is a useful mindset to develop due to the feelings confidence and control it gives you. The more clean foods you eat though the less you crave 'junk'. Having aid that there is huge variation between people here Re: Leptin I have read the support research but not sure how much I would be able to put down what I have seen in practice to this effect. Re: metabolic re-setting Yes I think this is a useful thing for those dieting stirckly and long term Re: Carb ups and calorie ccyling Yes again, useful for the increased training performance it allows
