hi all. right as im having a little friendly comp with another member on this board i want to know the best way to deadlift. someone suggested off of a few magazines the other day so its about 5" off the ground... is this correct? or does it have to be dead flat on the ground? im starting to shift heavy weight and even though its not a lot for some 100kg for me will be a PB tonight. and, as a result of increasing the weight i want to be getting form etc right and doing anything else which is allowed/meant to be done. cheers.

Will you be using olympic weights with 20kg plates? If so, then deadlift from the ground If you're using standard weights, then the plates are likely to be smaller, so you may need to put blocks under them so that they're at the correct height. To give you an idea, the bottom of the bar should be approx 8" from the floor Make sure you do some light warm up sets beforehand. Use an over / under grip as the bar is less likely to slip out of your hands. Try to pull the bar backwards rather than up Good luck with this

Ok, it just seems to me that you are asking for lifting advice, therefore your form maybe questionable, personally i would stick to a lower weight than 100kg and get the form nailed 100%, that way you have lessoned the risk to injury. I have been Deadlifting for just under 2 years, got to just over 100kg but have since dropped back to 80kg to get form spot on. good luck

ok cool. im using 1" plates so thats probably why someone said to put them on a couple of argos books then. I've got 3 months to lift 150kg, been lifting 88kg for 5 x 5 so i should be able to do 100kg easy enough but for some reason ive started questioning it haha. quote:

I use standard plates too. I've got a couple of 20kg discs, but I still have to elevate them a bit (I use some old HeMan and Transformers annuals ) I should think 100kg will be easy enough for you, looking at what you're doing for 5x5 Good luck with the 150kg target
