Affliction: Banned
-
16 May 2008 08:06
Affliction just announced today that Andre Arlovski and Ben Rothwell will fight each other at Affliction: Banned on July 19. The “Banned†fight card will be the first show promoted by Affliction and has one of the best fight cards of the year. Rothwell still is under contract with Adrenaline MMA but is fighting with permission on the Affliction card. Since the inaugural Adrenaline event is just a month earlier, he will not be available for the Adrenaline show. Here is the current fight card for the Affliction: Banned event: Fedor Emelianenko vs Tim Sylvia Josh Barnett vs Pedro Rizzo Ben Rothwell vs Andre Arlovski Aleksander Emelianenko vs Paul Buentello Matt Lindland vs Fabio Negao Renato Sobral vs Mike Whitehead Savant Young vs Mark Hominick Brett Cooper vs Mike Pyle Ray Lamaza vs Justin Levens JJ Ambrose vs Patrick Speight
Alwyn Cosgrove - I hate "gurus." In my mind there are only two gurus worth listening to, Yoda and Mr. Miyagi, neither of whom have ever written an arm training article. [link=http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/Skinny-Fat-Heavy-Breathing-Broken-Down-

Don't rate either of them very highly but I'd love to see big Tim knock Fedor out, I'm sorry to the Fedor fanboys but I just can't justify the hype about this guy.

His fight with Tim will answer a lot of questions for me. I know he beat Minotauro and all that but that was a while back, I'll see what he's got against Sylvia.

I respect your opinion mate, i admit he hasn't done much in two years but has fought unpredictable dangerous guys. I think after Slyvia, he will be fighting guys of top quality like Barnett and Cro Cop

the reason they banned fighters from wearing affliction gear was that they knew affliction had teamed up with oscar dela hoyas golden boy promotion to start an mma promotion elitexc have also banned fighters wearing affliction and i'm sure others have/will its like a Coca Cola truck with a driver wearing a pepsi cap

I think after Slyvia, he will be fighting guys of top quality like Barnett and Cro Cop I hope so anyway, he's a good fighter but I want to see him beat the best before I call him the best. Will be an exciting fight though with Tim, still drooling over the idea of him possibly fighting Randy but every day Randy is still contracted to UFC that dream dies a little bit more.

Card looks even better now, the fighters purses are said to total $3.5 million so could draw in some other big names. Fights added: Little Nog vs Vernon White The Legend Vitor Belfort vs Terry Martin

Highly doubt any british tv company will pick up the rights for the first event. Best bet is to find a live stream over the internet because it is a PPV in USA

They should have a heavy weight Grand Prix with all those great names on board. Josh Barnett would give Fedor a run for his money but i think he will turn Big Tim's lights out. I hope it takes off cos it bugs me a little that Pride folded and UFC have the monopoly on all things...

They need some good competition coz it helps both. I know its a different thing but look at the WWE nowadays, no competition really (ok, TNA but not great) and their product is getting gradually worse. WHile back when they had stiff competition from WCW they were at the top of their game! If the UFC doesnt have any competition they can run things however they like with no real consequences and the fighters and fans will have to take it coz they have no alternative

UFC announced that there is indeed a UFC Fight Night airing free on tv that night, headlined by Anderson Silva vs James Irvin. I think its really cheap on UFC's part, but also goes to show that they are scared sh*tless of real competition.
