Ever been caught on the internet at work?
-
16 May 2008 14:22
as title says. I got caught a couple of years ago when I worked in an office. The boss caught me on muscletalk and piston heads. Crept up on me the bastid! She said "whats this muscletalk your on Ed". I was like "errrrr its nothing" She then read the bodybuilding forum bit at the top and said really loud "what you looking at bodybuilding sites for" (this was a time before I started training so was dead skinny and just doing some research into the hobby). Everyone around then came over and started making jokes about how I was reading about bb'ing etc, which made me feel a bit stupid lol. Needless to say when I saw a group of them out a few weeks ago they seemed to find it hard to make jokes.

I'm the IT Manager so I know ways not to get caught. But besides that, our company policy is such that private telephone calls, and internet usage within reasonable limits is tolerated. Of course we have some blacklisted sites etc.

Ever since I got caught my left hand never left the alt and tab button. I used to work in an open office so would have to quickly switch between screens when someone came. I found the alt tab technique much more effective. Saves fumbling around trying to minimise the screen with the mouse.

ORIGINAL: eddie182 I found the alt tab technique much more effective. just as long as you dont have a porn site open on another window as well as MT.

its found that staff work better with a completely un work related break of 15 mins every 2 hours or so. so going on non offensive sites in a break time i dont see as a problem. they monitor our usage but im in sales so if your making them money i dont think they have a problem with it.

Part of my job is to monitor Internet activity at work. Caught one of the Company Director's soliciting prostitutes on the web not so long ago. At first, I thought he was surfing for porn, but then I realised he was looking at massage parlour / escort sites based in Cambridgeshire when he was in that particular area for a meeting one day, then a couple of sites in the Bury area when he was up at Warrington. Did some digging, and it seems he stays away from home a lot during the working week. Did I grass him up ? Of course. Did he lose his job some months later. Yes. Was I happy. Yes. Had nothing to do with him doing an office re-arrange some months earlier, and me ending up getting kicked out of my nice big office, in favour of sharing a smaller one with 2 other Managers. Honest.
ORIGINAL: pigeonwarrior sweet mate I love watching programs about aas. If it wasnt for the fact they can make you go bald I would do them now, the day I go bald though Ill be straight on them.

Out of curiosity, can work monitor your IT usage even if you dont see that vsm icon or another type of monitor software on your comp? Im on it quite a lot. For example, can even if you delete cookies, temp files, history etc, can they still see how much time in total youve spent in a day on it and such?
