Creatine - Some Questions - May 17 2008 13:01:47

Hey.

Just ordered some Creatine (Creatine Monohydrate) and I have a few questions.

Firstly, I know water retention can be an issue whilst taking Creative, are there any effective ways to manage/deal with this?

Secondly, can I take Creative in say pure Apple Juice?

Thirdly, can I take it with Whey Protein in water/milk?

Thanks! :)

Search for the Creatine article in the nutrition part of the forum, should explain a little.

You will take in more water, as Creatine increases the volume of cells. Nothing you can do about it. Some people get it more than others, and it depends on the individual (e.g. how much mass you have).

You can take Creatine with juice, a fair few people do that. Nothing wrong with whey either. Although personally, I find the benefits of creatine are better when taken with a simple carb (e.g. malto / dextrose), so it would probably be similar with some kind of juice.

Hope this helps

I've read that mixing creatine with cytrus turns the creatine into creatinine which is usless for weight lifting purposes.

Not sure how how valid this claim is though.

Maybe someone with the know how could go into abit more detail.

Creatine with whey is a better idea, as above(whey causes an insulin spike too).
I usually take it post workout or in the morning on non workout days. 38g Dextrose, or sugar, and 5g creatine(and 1g taurine), along with 30g whey.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have read the article on Creatine, but the only juice it mentions is Grape Juice, of which I am not a fan.

Probably will take it in the morning Whey Shake instead.

Hey...again!

I'm just working out the correct amounts for my PWO Shake. How does this sound?

56g Whey (2 Scoops) + 35g Dextrose + 5g Creatine.

I also need to take on another 5g creatine at some point in the day as I am in loading phase. I suppose I could take it on the night seperately before bed?

I'd having something more like 40g Whey, 50g Dex, 5g Creatine. I was recommended similar to this a while back.

What brand of creatine have you got? Creatin Ethyl esters are better as they can penetrate the lipid membranes and the water retention is in the muscle not the stomach ( which most of the creatine monohydrate stays)

I have mono, but I read on here that CEE works for some, and not for others?

IMO stick to Mono. CEE has little (if any) evidence which definitely shows it works(and is safe). Mono has over 100 studies showing its effectiveness and it safeness. Some have a problem with bloating, try it and see!

Yes, your creatine shake looks good. Best taken in the morning or post workout on workout days.

That is very true, I have been advised to use CEE but I have read that some can be a bit risky. The CEE I am going to purchase is Alri CR2, have you heard of this before? If so is it any good?
