How safe is your neighbourhood...who are your neighbours?
-
17 May 2008 18:34
Last night I was awaked by a thump and a loud bark of a dog following by a bunch of people shouting... I thought "damn drunken pr!cks" and tried to go back to sleep. No luck as more loud dog barks and even louder thumps followed... So I get up to look out the window only to find out the whole building is surrounded by cops. These weren't your average cops either Im talking bulletproof vests, shields etc.... Hmmm wtf I thought lets check out front... a there awaits more cops all armed and a whole bunch of undercover police cars, vans the lot. It seems that my neighbours downstairs were involved in something and their house was raided by what I can only describe as swat type police... two younsters arrested and taken away and their brother casually comes strolling from somewhere with a policeman pointing a gun at him shouting "get down on your knees boy". He pleaded " I didnt do anything" followed by about 5/6 policemen jumping on him following a promp arrest. No idea what they were involved in tbh I could only assume its drugs but why so many cops?

lol, at one time i could name atleast one drug dealer on every street in my estate, i have many old school friends that are drug addicts, there has been a few murders and countless stabbings over the past couple of years but having said all that, i wouldnt class it as a bad/dangerous place to live

Hello whats happening now is the police are aiming at the drug dealers and big robbers out there at the top. To stop the big supply chain from going down to the smaller ones and then the people who buy the stuff then. Were going to see this more and more over the coming months and years with drugs and robbers big dealers out there needing to be cought out. Its only way to stop the supply chain from carrying on other wise getting little small time dealers and small buyers does next to nothing. Taking out the big ones thats were it hits hard and best and known to work. Problem is drugs are so easy to get hold of like going to sweet shop but alot easyer to get hold of drugs now.

Live in a dump. A few drug dealers and chavs, but it only gets rowdy during the summer usually. A few of the buildings I live near got raided for firearms and drugs by loads of coppers, I think it was 60 or more, and it was headline news in the London Metro paper the next day.

They always use tons so people give up without a fight. Like SWAT in the states - just overwhelming threat of force. Saves hassle...

The area I was born and bred in is rough but I love the area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ely_Petrol_Riots Ryan Giggs, Steve Robinson (boxer) and Shaking Stevens are all from Ely. The area I am renting in now is a lovely area. No trouble at all.

I had 5 police cars and 8 policemen turn up to my house for a fcuking driving offence. It's rediculous. As for my street, it's quite middle class and theres a large percentage of old people on it. Just 2 streets away is rough as arseholes though.

strange sounding but it's safe and unsafe - but that's probably like anywhere most of the time safe, but random people have been badly beaten up for no reason and I noticed the last few years the guns have trickled down to low level type lads. manchester itself has a bad rep but it can not be as bad as whereever the rangers fans come from

we will usually always go in with a show of force and with good numbers, makes it safer to start with plus you need enough bodies to control the location and anyone you may find in their, plus then there is the searching that needs to be done. so you do need a good number. plus all officers wear or should wear bullet proof vests all the time anyways

I was less impressed.

I live in a small village in the middle of nowhere, and we had a bloke have a good old shoot out with the armed police a couple of years back It can happen anywhere I guess
