No there not, you are better going for a second hand set of callaway or something like that with the big cavity back, especially if you are a beginner.

I guess it depends if your serious about playing as to what clubs you buy, if your just giving golf a shot you may as well buy just a cheap set and see if you like it or not as its frustrating at first but at a lot of people get addicted and want to keep playing so maybe then would be a good time to upgrade to a really good set.
Personally id rather buy a second hand set of callaway/titleist than a brand new set of hippo's etc if i was going to continue playing.

Best piece of advice ive had on golf...
Forget the names, forget the prices and just get what works the best for you that you are comfotable with paying for.
My mate got a hippo starter set for £150ish last year, he's doin well with them for a beginner.
My irons were second hand wilsons, cost me £40 and are p1ss poor. I play reasonably well when i play regulary so i just bought a good driver and an excellent putter. You'll use a putter more than any other club so imo, it is the one that have to be comfortable with.
Good luck with it anyway, great game and great way of winding down. (after the initial few months of being angry cos u cant hit the ball.. hehe)

agree with the advice of if possible try them and see how you like them, some clubs feel awkard and rubbish to one person and another person loves them and vice versa

hippo though in general are decent enough

I agree with American Dream, for £100 you can easily pick up a very decent second hand set of clubs that were probably £400-£500 only a handful of years ago..Ram, Mizuno, Ping, just to name three more of many....

I can't stress at this point though how important lessons are...trying to teach yourself or reading books or taking advice from mates/people? Forget it, book ten lessons now and learn to build a swing that will stay with you - or you're likely to spend years trying to 'quick fix' bad habits you've picked up from the start!!! Believe me
