When I am curling the underside of my forearm (when doing e-z curls) is sore, then when i put the weight down I get agonising pains for 5-10 secconds, they feel like they are in the fibia bone. Was just wondering if anyone has had the same or knows whats wrong? Can it be fixed? Thanks so much for any advise.

i had this for a while earlier this year, drop the weight on your EZ curls by quite a lot, increase your reps and take them easier, i found that when i did this it built more muscle in my arm and after a month or so the pain went away and i was able to increase the weight on the EZ bar....

I also get the pain when using a hammer bar, just tried using dbs and they seem ok will try full sets with these on my next bicep day. Thanks for advise it seems like a common problem and from what I've read there doesnt seem to be a way to overcome it, are there any other exercises which hit biceps as hard as e-z curls but dont cause pain?

Cable curls are ok (try 21's on cables, do you know what i mean?), but D'bell the best.becasue my forearms are sore i use a light weight and do EZ curl 21's instead of heavy EZ curls

my theory is thats its something to do with your forearm strength not keeping up with your bicep, reason for this is that when i had this, i dropped the weight of the curl and did other exercises for the bicep and once my arms had built up and i went back to heavier curling it didnt hurt anymore....

i get this from time to time, i usually alternate grip position and swap between EZ-bar and barbell or use dumbbells for a few weeks.

Wrap your forearms tight... it really really helps. Best advice I have ever had probably.

Thanks for everyones advice but does anyone know why this happens? Prob becasue the zig zag grip + heavy weigth on the bar must stress your forearm alot more than a Barbell

I was told it was basically tendinitis. Short tendons getting stretched under load getting inflamed. You find if you let your wrist bend back it hurts less than keeping it straight... but whatever way when you let go of the bar it murders. Letting go slowly helps. The wraps apparently help spread the force. Another tip (is making the grip wider) again that would mean your tendons don't have as far to go... Stuart Cosgrove says try a dense foam rubber roll on the bar and you hod the foam. I have never tried the foam but the more I'm using the wraps on my forearms the more it's mending as the inflammation is not as bad. Droping the weight didn't help me, even when I came back slowly into things... my arms need heavy weight to respond at least for the 1st set and as soon as I go back to going heavy again (even after a long period of building the weights back up) I start getting the forearm pain. I also couldn't grip other things without pain (chins, flys, leg extensions holding the handles etc). Wraps have been my saviour.

I ge this alot and particulalry in my right one.. i think and docs suggested that it could be a form of tennis elbow. So as above strapping could help. That said, i use the grippers in excercise (the ones with two handles on a springy thing) or get a plate in your fingers and bring it to the thumb. Although strictly a grip excercise does seem to warm up forearm muscles and i dont get the pain as much. silk

I'm getting this too, bloody annoying. It helps a bit to start very light and do plenty of warm ups before doing any worksets. Not tried Johns wrapping idea but sounds good.Think I'll have some of that.
