loose the fat keep the muscle
-
31 May 2008 23:14
Hi guys and girls, I bet you've had a similar question before but i'm going to ask it any way. I've been weight training for 3 years now was 9.5 stone skinny git now i'm 12.5 looking ok apt a little flab round the waist. Unable to do sit ups due to a sacroiliac joint problem. Need to get rid of the flab so i've started mountain biking once a week we do about 15 miles up and down hill in around 3 hours. I take a pre work out shake glutamine, creatine and a protein along with porrage before i set off. Ive always been reluctant to do the cardio in fear of loosing the 3years worth of muscle i've put on, but now realise my stamina is very bad and need to loose the flab. Will this burn the fat? Will i loose muscle? What can i do to burn the fat and keep the muscle? diet? cardio? etc Oh i still want to gain another 1.5 stone muscle. Thanks Aky

its all about the diet buddy. to get rid of the "flab" around your waist you will have to cut cals and carbs so your in defecit so your burning the far you have, its a complicated business really, is there no-one in your gym that can do proper nutrition plans ? (and for reference, you wont loose fat by just doing situps, you have to loose it from everywhere, so your joint problem shouldnt be an issue) and you obviously cant gain muscle and loose fat at the same time, its impossible, choose which you want to achieve first and go for it
Start: 5Ft 10In - 210Ib - 26% Bodyfat Current: 168Ib - 12.5% Bodyfat Goals: 200 - 220 pounds - 5 - 10 % Bodyfat

Thanks jmp04 So what your telling me is you cant loose the fat and gain muscle not even if you up the protein take L-glutamine there is nothing you can do about it. I know somebody who has mentioned taking ephedrine or clenbutrol is this worth looking into?

To gain muscle you need to be in a calorific surplus, to loose it you need to be deficient in calories, both require large amounts of protein but the two as a result are incompatible. You can lower bf% by putting on a deal of lean muscle with no fat as obviously more muscle to same amount of fat lowers the %, but you cant do both Eph and Clen are useful but if you're fairly new to all this then I'd recommend just getting diet sorted first and doing a bit of cardio

You can lose weight and keep muscle - sort your diet out eliminating crap food, up your protein intake and do cardio, maybe 3x1hr sessions to start

I wouldn't get disheartened, if you drop the fat and retain the mass you have you will look more impressive and bigger, I looked much more muscular when I was ripped despite being at my lowest bodyweight! Diet, chcuk in the cardio and see where the road takes you!! Good luck

Hi thanks for the link, I've been contemplating taking Clendutrol but was unsure is its going to have any log term side effects. I'm not afraid of hard work and cardio just didn't want to loose the muscle thats taken me 3 years to build and god knows how many protein shakes to go with it.
