Fat burning for hips and thigh area - 09 June 2008 10:23
Hi guys,

Hope someone can help with this topic, a female friend of mine at work 20 yrs old is doing approxiamately 1 hr of cardio everyday (at a good tempo). She takes the weekend off for a break and is a vegatarian, she also eats pretty healthily. She has relatively wide hips and appears to be storing the majority of her fat on her thighs and hips. Her upper body is much leaner and she would like to achieve some proportion to her fat burning efforts.

I know it is difficult to burn fat from specific areas in general but does anyone have some information or ideas that may help her burn more fat from her lower body. She has considered surgery, are there any products that help to increase the heat in these areas during exercise that will stimulate fat burning?

Cheers

You can't spot reduce fat - if her upper body is fairly lean then her body should be beginning to use fat from the more abundant areas rather than scrape it together from the torso so to speak.

Patience and consistency is key - not magic pills or fat burners.

Hey AK_88 thanks for your reply, yeah I know that spot reducing from certain areas is impossible and that it should be use fat stores from all areas of the body. Was just wondering if she could use like a 'sweat vest' kind of clothing to increase the temperature in the thigh and hip area?

her current bodyweight is 148 lbs, diet consists of the following (not enough in my opinion)

30mins crosstrainer first thing 6:30am

Breakfast 7:05 am - Bowl of muesli with semi skimmed milk (small amount)

Lunch - toast some times but skips lunch (has fruit during the day -orange, apple and pear)

30mins crosstrainer at 5:30pm

Dinner (Vegatarian) 7:00 pm - Varies between the following types of foods ( Brown Rice, Salad, Vegtables, Baked potatoes, quorn, cheese (not excessive) )

Fluid intake water during the day, 1 cup of coffee, 1 cup of tea

She feels tired but not drained so to speak, looking at her diet I would say that she is not consuming anywhere near what she needs to be in order for her body to release fat stores.

As mentioned she is vegatarian and does not eat meat, fish, cottage cheese, eggs.

guys I would apprciate your views on this

She needs to sort that diet out. There appear to be no EFAs to speak of and very little protein.

She'll be on uner 1000 cals - not a great place to be.

Not worth it IMO - anything that will increase sweating will just increase water loss, which will go straight back on when she rehydrates herself.

Any reason she doesn't eat cottage cheese or eggs? - they're not animal products in the same bracket as meat/fish etc as such.

The diet needs work though - 3 meals a day especially with portion sizes that small will leave her metabolism quite sluggish, eating more frequently will help keep things ticking over.

She takes the weekend off for a break

Would probably sort that out first before considering anything more drastic.

Plus a lot of vegetarians have terrible diets.

how come she eats cheese but not cottage cheese, if its for moral beliefs, then its very hypocrytical. Also, if she eats Quorn, then that also has egg in it !

Is she Vegan (does she want to be Vegan), if so, then a diet can be quite hard to follow. just make sure she gets her essential fatty acids (from nuts, seeds, oils etc)
and for to up her protein intake

hi guys

Yeah she just hates the taste of cottage cheese, and does not like egg either. Very restricitve I know. Bless her she can't even look at someone eating fish it makes her feel ill

You are definately right about her diet, she must be accumalating many fat storing enzymes with her minimal eating. I suppose its like most ladies, they want to loose weight so they eat less and less and still don't loose it, so when you tell them to eat more there like "no way, im not loosing anything now"

Its difficult cos proportion wise her thighs are quite large, I will see if she will let me get a pic so you guys can understand the problem.

Would any of you know a good vegatarian alternative diet she could eat (bearing in mind she is a fussy bugger)?

Thanks

No mate she don't eat meat, fish, eggs, and does not like cottage cheese, although she does eat hard cheese but not regularly just sparingly maybe shavings in salad sometimes.

Sorry I was taking the piss as I read it about 5 times in your post

I'm a vege too, there are a few here.

TBH, it's not really an alternative diet, but more a new diet she needs designed... head to the diet section IMO
