-
09 June 2008 20:54
hi, got the lease today for a new salon, but this ones gonna have hair in it as well as our main trade beauty/nails/tanning. any of you guys work in the hair industry? or maybe your wives? can you offer me any tips? what is essencial kit that I might not have thought of? I got this list from a supplier some time ago for what they thought I would need: - Clippers - Small neck clippers - Hand dryer - Set of heated rollers??? - Hot brushes (one small, one large) - Straighteners - Two pairs of tongs - Trolley (mid range) for rollers etc - Trolley for tinting/perming equipment - Hand mirror - Child’s chair - Hydraulic cutting/styling chair - Selection of brushes, combs, clips etc - Rollers and perm wave curlers - Gowns - Basin & Backwash chair But are these essencial? - Hood dryer or - Colour porcessor And for nails... NSI products are thought of as the best or one of the best Are there cetain brands in hair that are the industry leaders for Colours, Shampoos, styling products etc

I live upstairs from a Russian beauty salon. They have some sort of arc-welder for fastening locks of brightly coloured synthetic hair.
Ten thousand glorious years.

For gluing hair extensions? LOL I have no idea. A lot of the local Russian women have a very 'au-unnaturell' sense of style.

how do you guys feel about getting your hair cut in a hair salon? rather than a normal barbers? I'm thinking about putting a more masculin hair station in the corner, and maybe even rent it out to a male barber? other option is just letting the female hair dressers who are qualified in mens cuts to just take any male clients to the male station. but I'm not sure men would us a salon type place even though it's unisex so not even sure about catering for male hair at all.

Just asked my missus who's been a hairdresser for 20 years and she reckons that list sounds about right. Re; the male salon .. depends where you're located. If you're in a more upmarket/trendy area then I would say you could do this but if you're in a working class area then can you see the local lads sacking off the barbers to go to the hair salon?

yep mrs say its about right, although she has a bit of a thing for climazone's obviously i get my hair done at home but it would appear barbers charge about £5-10 for a short back and sides but the qualified females charge about £20-30

My mum owns her own hair salon, my misses also works in it. Other than the things you have listed, you are going to need a ton of products such as tints, shampoos, conditioners ets, not just for use on customers, but to sell. Didnt see a Cash register mentioned on your list. And a box of toy for the kids at the waiting area to keep them from running wild around the salon with have your equipment. ORIGINAL: JohnOvManchester how do you guys feel about getting your hair cut in a hair salon? rather than a normal barbers? Other than the flood of old women getting their perms and colour rinses, I would say that my mum gets just as many male customers as she does female ones..

Can you ask her about the colour processor? do I need one (would it be one per work station)? The salon is in a bear ass rough area LOL Most locals are short back and sides crew cuts or skin heads I'd say I know the older geezers won't leave there truty barbers but there will be a few metro types in the area as we are known as the pink city (with the gay villige and all that) who will have more funkier stuff done but they might stick to the city centre places... we know we will get them through the door with the sunbeds and spray tan so maybe able to pass trade to the hair side.

Please could you ask about what products she uses and where from? Does she use the brands she retails? I know a lot of the colours can be just generic type things that come in percentages but I' thinking what about the other stuff etc
