Painful forearm when curling...
-
11 June 2008 14:02
whenever I'm curing using a W bar or the wires, I get a painful ache in my left forearm as soon as I have finished my set. at first, I thought the pain originated from the bone but recently my little finger on my left hand has started to spasm after my reps. my gym buddy has also experienced something similar when we've been maxing out while curling, but not to the extent I have. its worrying me a little as its happening all the time now and the pain continues for a couple of day, which has been hindering me somewhat while doing other exercises. has this happened to anyone else, or know if something like this is not unheard of with some people?? chars.

Should really be in training correctly forum btw I used to get this pain curling with a metal handle on the cable machine, switched to a textile one and its stopped. I think it probab;y has something to do with the fixed position during the curl. If I was you id switch exercises or use a different attachment.

I think its something to do with your forearms not being as well conditioned as your biceps, you have to work on your forearms more.

i often get a pain. So i choose exercise where when at the bottom of the movement my arm is not straight. My hand is slightly angled towards my legs. I find this stops it. i also drop a set of normal curls for hammer curls. while these are not working the biceps as hard they still help and I do not get the pain. though i hope in a few weeks my forarms will be back to normal so i resume normal curls then

I almost dropped a dumbell on my head tonight when I was doing lat raises lol. just out of interest, what are the best exercises for working your forearms??

move your hand positioning on the bar for barbell curls, switch to a barbell and see if it reduced the pain. look at your elbow positioning, does it hurt more or less when you keep your elbows in line with your wrists or when you drift them out to the sides?

Putting the bar down and releasing it very slowly, helps a bit. Other than that, drop the weight, up the reps and give your body time to adapt.

I'm back. the problem persists. I started working my forearms shortly after I made this thread, mostly by reverse curls. however, this only resulted in working my inner forearm (brachioradialis) with the pain originating from the outer side of my forearm. I decided to rest it for 2 weeks, wondering if I'd somehow pulled a muscle in my forearm and the continuing work outs were adding to the strain. the pain went and I felt ready for a return to the gym, which started last week. I'm right back at square one again as the pain came straight back. I'm at a loss. I cant seem to find any excercises that work the outer muscle in the forearm. I'm not sure whether I need to consult a physio about it.
