Inner Bicep is big, outer is tiny! HELP! - 11 June 2008 15:52
I've always struggled with my biceps and I put this down to gentics.

But they were always there and pretty decent. After a years break I'm training hard again, but they're growing really odd this time.

The inner part looks fine, but the outer is tiny. When I hold my arm outstretched and tense my arm slightly, I can actually see the difference in the muscle. All my bicep mass is on the inside of the arm.

So I kinda look ok when doing a bicep pose, but when my arms are by my sides and not tense, I look like I've never trained them in my life!!

Is there anything I can do to correct this, or do I just need to keep plugging away.

You'll find this is the case with everyone. Compare a front double bi to a rear double bi on anyone, from anyone here up to the top pros.

When doing barbell curls trying using a narrow grip for a while rather than wider grip and it should hit the outer part of the bi's a little more. Give it a try for a couple of months and see if that helps add balance.

I know exactly what you mean! This was my solution to the problem... If you look at someones arm from the side and it looks huge, it's 90% due to their tricep - the "Lateral Head" to be more precise.

I'm not trying to be offensive here, but what do you mean? The bicep is all on the inner part of the arm, the other side is the tricep

I meant I can see where he's coming from but it is the tricep you can see when "looking from the side". If that makes any sense...

Wouldn't worry about it, but strict (Close Grip) BB curls will target the outer bicep.
Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.

the bicep is one muscle you cant target different parts of it.it lengthens and shortens in a straight line between its origin and insertion.

Wrong, you can emphasive which of the BIceps is working the hardest. That's like saying you can't target the brachialis....

The Biceps and Brachialis are 2 separate muscles but both perform exactly the same function - flexion of the arm at the elbow. But note the brachialis is a very weak flexor. So you can't target one over the other because any flexion at the elbow works both parts of the

Maybe you're getting confused with the Brachioradialis. This can be emphasised over the biceps by pronating the forearm as it puts the biceps at a mechanical disadvantage in this position.

Inner/Outer, Upper/Lower biceps though. BBing myths and misconceptions.

Best to do a mixture of compound movements and isolation exercises. If your avatar is a recent picture then TBH your arms aren't big enough to start emphasising different parts of them anyway. Put as much effort into training the triceps and I dare say you'll see an improvement.

The shape of ur muscles are def determined by which exercises u do. I would just stick to a straight barbell curl, not ez bar. move ur hands to diff widths for a variation. and hammer dumbell curls.

It is one muscle but the word BI-CEP indicates two parts to that muscle and you can target the different heads with close or wide grip on a straight bar.. Check out Jason Pelletier on the fit show on bodybuilding.com

They also play apart in the rotation of the wrist

No - the Biceps Brachaii performs flexion at the elbow, weak flexion at the shoulder and supinates the forearm.
The Brachialis only flexes the arm at the elbow. It does not rotate the forearm nor the wrist.
The Brachioradialis is the same, however, it can be emphasised by pronating the forearm when performing curls.

I mentioned those muscles in relation to the previous post stating that you could target individual parts of the biceps muscle family. I'm not sure why you erroneously made your comment?
