I imagine there will be varying replies to this, but when is the best time to take protein?

I take 36g as soon as I wake up, 36g around 20 mins after workout (1.30pm), then another 36g around 6pm.

A mate told me that it's better to take 60g-90g all in one hit straight after workout.

Also, how much (max) will the body absorb in one go? Cuz if it's only around 40g, the 'one hit' job sounds like a waste of time and money.

Any advice would be appreciated.

NB: the above protein intake is on top of whatever I get out of food before anyone flames me for not taking enough! lol

If we are talking about whey protein concentrate and not a blend then straight after a workout would be the most optimal time as this is the time where your body can use it most efficiently and quickly....i have two scoops of whey PWO in water.

There is nothing wrong with taking it at other times of the day but just remember it digests fairly quickly, so a blend of proteins would be better or just add the whey to milk and some fibrous carbs to slow it down a little. Solid food is always better, but sometimes you just aren't hungry so substituting whey a shake won't harm you.
